to the dear people, and then they would
charge you the aauie lo ride to l'ortland aa
to New York, and the aame with ahlpping
your produce, and we that lira clone lo

who are o unfortunate aa to live a long

OOti.OoO railroad employe under the patron
age of I he government, and of courao under
the patronage of the party that happen lo
be In power. While crying out againat the
wealthy, tlmy tell the oor laborer that
land ahall be a free a (he air we brratha.
They promise the soldiers of the north
that they shall .have a. thousand million
dollars to make up for w hat they lust on
the paper money during the war, and they
promlae the slave owners of the south that
(hey shnf? have about twice that amount to
pny them for the slaves that they lost
through the efforts of these snme soldiers.
They promise prohibition lo the tempcr
anco people, and they tell the whiskey
di inker that they will abolish the saloon
keeper, and the goverment will sell him his
whiskey direct at one tenth the present
price.
They promise Hint we will have lo build
at leant ten more railroads acmes the conti
nent, and we will all lie so rich that we will
have to import our luborers from the old
country,
The only time they touch on local issues,
1 lo demand that we Khali retain on our
alatute hooks the law that we now have al
lowing deduction for Indebtedness a law
that we have tried and found wanting, and
very much so, too.
They are Inconsistent trom tlrst to last,
and 1 am sure If the people will study them,
they will see they are, and that there is one
thing only 111 which they are consistent,
and that is that they tliould vote to give
them the olllces. 1 think the people will
readily see the abuses that the law allowing
deduction for indebtedness has brought In
Its wake, and will not be willing lo vote for
men that are pledged against its repeal. I
think they will see that Interest will he
enough lower when that law is repealed to
make up forth difloreuce In taxes, as well
as to see that our taxes will be lower and
more equitable,
