The little steamer Volunteer, on the Milwaukie-Portland route, is being over hauled in Portland. She will have her length increased fifteen feet, and new machinery will be put iD . When she re sumes her run she will make hourly trips between Milwaukie and Portland. Attorney Geo. C. Brownell left Thurs day morning for Forest Grove to address the republican club which met them in the evening. The Forest Grove Times spoke very flatteringly ot Mr. Brownell as a public speaker and adver tised him as being the drawing card of the meeting. St. Paul's Guild will give its dram atic entertainment at Pope's hall, on Tuesday evening, March 1. The pro gram will consist of two parts each being complete in itself. The first part is en titled, " The Rough Diamond" and the second, " Wanted, One Hundred Milli ners." The best of home talent will be engaged in these productions. Good music will be furnished to vary the pro gram. Some hoodlum boys of Park Place have been annoying the Southern Pacific bridge tender, David Close, lately. Last Wednesday night they thought they would have some fun by stoning Mr. Close's cabin when be appeared on the scene with a shot gun which he discharged in such a manner that the hoodlums were instantly routed. He is done being fooled with. The complaint in an equity suit in which Thomas R. A. and J. M. B. Sell wood are plaintiffs and P. J. and Eliza beth H. Heinneman are defendants, all of Milwaukee, was filed with the county clerk Tuesday. It involved the title to three-fourths of an acre of land between the two parties, there being, it is claimed, an error in the description under which the defendants now hold the tract. The matter has some bearing on a small water power there. Died.
