They are brought by the United States aguinst Edmund Hull of Detroit and K. B. Foss of I!ay City, Mich., as trans ferees in thittoon pre-emption claims In Columbia county. The clultns have been hold for cancellation on the grounds that the entries were fraudulent, theentryinon, It is claimed, taking the land for speculation, making poor im provements and exhibiting gonernl bad faith with the government. Three inspectors have been some time in working up the cases which are boing tried by Inspector Savery for the gov ernment and Burnoy & Draper for do fondants, both of whom are present in porson. This batch of cases is likely to occupy sevoial weeks in the hearing. After they are disposed of there will be brought up for trial a batch of timber land claims that have also been hold for cancellation. It is claimed that the de fendants got tho entrymen to take up the claims and transfor to themselves contrary to the statute. If the claims are cancolled a large tract of valuable land in Columbia county will be restored to the public domain. Amer Sutcliffe has been appointed ad ministrator of the estate of Nettie Hoyt Steers and has filed his bond in the sum of f 2000 for the faithful discharge of the doty. When Mr. Sarah Ford died a few weeks ago she left an estate consisting of ninety-three acres of lund valued at f5000. Her will admitted to probate named her husband, Frank Ford, as ex ecutor, and he has filed with the county court his bond in the sum of $10,0008 required by law. Short Oregon Notes. In the extreme northern portion of Crook county many horses are sick with a poisonous disorder. Forty bead belonging to a Mr. Ashby, of Wasco county, have died, and many others are affected. It is claimed they eat a weed called rattle weed. J, B. Mailing, a worthy citizen of Hepp ner, lias just received word from Eng land that he is one of a few heirs to over 1,000,000, besides two landed es tates. He has a copy of the will and will at once put himself, through the proper course, into possession of his share of the fortune. It is a singular fact that during the months of January and February there is a run of salmon trout in all the streams of the Walla Walla valley. Tiieso fish go up there to spawn, and their young and the young of the dog salmon afford the Walla Wallans fly fish ing during the summer.
