It is ulxiut time the state or county
bought what is called the Barlow toll road,

roads, and then have to pay to travel them,
that it should be made a county road by all
means, to the base of Mount Hood.

The dedication of the Congregational
church in New Oswego took place April 111,
ut lli.'lll A. M. The church is a line build
ing and reflects great credit on the citizens
of Oswego and surrounding country. Long
before the hour appointed for ti e dedica
tiomil exercises, the church was lilted to
overflowing, u great many having to stand
during service.
Hev. f'hipp, ot Portland, was the oflleia
ting clergyman, and the plan he introduced
of raising funds to clear the indebtedness of
the church was both novel, interesting and
successful. He had arranged a chart repre
senting lots, such us is seen in a real es
tate ollice. They ranged in price from Jo to
IdO') per lot. At the commencement of the
sale the lots valued ut IflOU were sold first;
then those that brought .VI, then the $'.11,
ID and $.". The amount realized for lots
was fdnfiO, a very good day's work, nnd
shows the generosity of our people. Miss
Jones, of Oregon City, favored u w ith sev
eral beautiful songs. We appreciate her
kindness, and extend our thanks and hope
to see her among us again.
When our church shall have received a
finishing touch, such as varnishing and

it will com pure favorably with any church
in Oregon. Many thanks to those who
have so kindly helped hy (purchasing a lot)
