FREEZE, EYE SPECIALIST 5052 Main St Opposite Postoffice Oregon City Every community in the State is a potential metropolis with just as much opportunity to develop, flourish and expand as any other more populous center. And every community has it's opportunities, which need only practi cal knokledge and proper encouragement, to be made the foundation of pres ent and future growth. It has not been many years since small communities were complacently awaiting some future day to bring recognition of their respective merits of ' scenery, climate and fine water-in the belief that such recognition meant de velopment. But this policy has been discarde'd and they now realize that with out industry as a foundation, expansion to any appreciable degree is impossi ble. Every small ecntier of trade or population, says The Associated Indus tries of Oregon, just as much as the larger place, has some reason for it's , existence and in nine cases out of ten an industry or resource is the basic cause. Encouraged, that industry will expand and bring more people into the group. Ultimately that one advancing industry will bring others. Without exception this has been the experience of every large city. There is propor tioned as much money in the small community as in the large city. But the flourishing community is keeping that money at home through the purchase of products manufactured nearby. Present industry contains within itself the power of future develop ment whether it be in the community or the State. The buying of Oregon products means the encouragement of industry and consequent growth. It is an inexorable cycle. I have destroyed more than all the wars of the world. I am more deadly than bullets, and I have wrecked more homes than the mightiest of siege guns. I steal in the United States alone over $500,000,000 each year. I spare no one, and I find my vic tims among the rich and poor alike; the young and the old, the strong and the weak, widows and orphans know me. I loom up to such proportions that I go into every corner of the earth leaving behind me destroyed homes, factories, ships, cities or anything that may get in my path. I am your worst enemy, but yet few take the necessary precaution to avoid me. I AM FIRE FIRE PREVENTION CO. Corner South Second and High Sts. PUBLIC BENEFITTED BY NEWSPAPER ADVERTISING Newspaper advertising is the most effective and cheapest form of sales manship. It increases volume and decreases cost This was the decision of Harley W. Brundige, president tf the state rail road commission of California, in re ply to criticism which questioned the right of a public utility company to advertise in a community where it had no competitor. President Brundige gives a quali fied approval to the use of newspapers for the purpose of extending business. "I cannot see what competition has to do with this class of advertising," President Brundige held, "Modern ad vertising is creative. It produces de mand and brings ney business. Its use is universal in industrial and commercial life. "By producing volume it leads to quantity production and lowers priecs. Much of the best national ad vertising is directed to this end. The great success in market expansion that has attended the advertising cam paigns of co-operative farm groups such as the raisin, citrus, prune and peach associations may be accepted as proof. "Merely taking trade away from A competitor without developing new business is quite a negligible feature of modern advertising. "In my opinion the advertising re ferred to is not only legitimate but very desirable as it is designed to the total sales of electric energy by stimulating use. At the present time with the development 01 hydro-electric power, an expanded market is necessary 10 uuuz.e energy. . "The cost of selling this product is -,a - a witimate operating expense and advertising is conceded to be the most eftective ana ai wo same time the cheapest form of sales Rev. William Stoever . Is In Oregon City Rev. William Stoever of Redlands, California, is an Oregon City visitor. Rev. Stoever who was called here by the death of his father, the late Wil liam Andrew Stoever, spent his boy hood days in this city, later studying for the Lutheran ministry. He ha sheld pastorates during the past 19 years, at Tacoma and Seattle, Wash., and is at present holding a charge at Redlands, California. Rev. Stoever will remain here for a few days with his mother and friends. Alfalfa, clover and rape are consid ered the best pasture plant for hogs. Pasture alone, however, is not a suf ficient ration to bring the best re sults in pig feeding. Grain of some kind should always be fed along with it. Some feeders prefer to limit the amount of grain fed to two or three pounds daily per 100 pounds of hog. Others prefer the self feeder. Either system is satisfactory.
