HORSE MARINES, NOW
Uncle Sam's Forces to Live Up to
Comic Opera Stunts
"Boy, page Colonel Sadler of the
United States Marine Corps Cavalry!"
A bit of pleasantry, think you ? No
siree, Bob. Horse Marines are about
to become a ' stern reality and poor
old Captain Jinks of the nautical
equestrian forces may yet be avenged.
But hist whilst we slip you the plot
of the piece.
In the scheme for the pacification
of Haiti, which will become effective
when the United States Marine Corps
will police that turbulent little island
republic from end to end, while
mounted on snorting steeds. But our
versatile Marines are not in the least
perturbed at the prospect of having
to navigate "cayuses" over the tropic
al isle to the "loo-ard.''
"Why shouldn't we ride horses?''
they want to know. "We've had
mounted patrols at our station at
Mare Island, California, for years
and a little thing like steering a mus
tang shouldn't bother a soldier who
has been to sea."
And there you have it.
- Misdirected Zeal
The writer remembers that while
living in Woodburn a few years ago, a
lot of voters who had helped make the
town dry at a city election got hot
under the collar when the council
was importuned to close the picture
shows on Sunday, and declared they
would vote wet next time. And
enough votes did change to open sa
loons again. This reminiscence is
suggested by the mutterings of dis
content that attend the talk about re

that has been in a condition of in-

derived, as a result of normal conditions beinfc re
stored through Chiropractic, Elbert Hubbard has investigated
spinal adjustments and has taken them personally.
As a result of his own experiences, he
makes the following remarks, which
are condensed from his recent book en
titled, "The New Science, or The Fine
Art of Getting Well and Keeping So;"
Above all things, a fcood Chiroprac
tor has faith in Nature. He does not
make his proud boast that he cures
people. He knows it is Nature that
heals. All the Chiropractor can do is
to put his patients in line with the
healinA forces of Nature. Chiropractic
never brings on adverse result.
The Chiropractor does rot pin his
ELBERT HUBBARD faith to any single panacea, tie simply
knows the physical fact that a pressure
of bone on nerve brings about a condition where the tele
graph system fails to act properly. He sees the result, and
his business is to fto after the cause. With skillful manipula
tion of the hand, he brings about a rifcht relationship and proper
adjustment He finds the cause and removes it.
Chiropractors are not DOCTORS OF MEDICINE. From
them we fcet a science which is adding fcreathr to the
welfare and happiness, and the well beinfc of the world.
If you are sick, worn out, or racked with disease,
your trouble may be due to nerve pressure, which
is hindering Nature from performing its work.
Come in for an analysis and let us tell you frankly
just what Chiropractic can do for you,

It is easy to get people as far as one
can lead them, but when it .comes to

HINT FOR CAMPERS
"Sure Method" of Destroying Hornets
Offered, but not Guaranteed
Here's a scheme for destroying hor
nets and yellow jackets, voucher for
by Doctor Malander, of the Washing
ton Agricultural College, writes a con
tributor in the current issue of Farm
and Fireside.
"Find the nest by watching the
homing hornets. Fill a gallon jug a
quarter lull of water and place it next .
the nest. A hornet will enter the
jug, fall into the water, make a dis
turbing humming, perhaps send out
distress signals, and in the course of
the day all the hornets in the colony
will drown themselves in the jug."
Missed the Point, At That
Mr. D. F. Erdman was at the point
of death Saturday afternoon. While
working in a well, a pail slipped from
the hook and fell down about forty
feet, struck him on the forehead cut
ting a very ugly gash and breaking
the skull bone above the left eye. He
was assisted by the Sandy doctor, and
had ten stitches put in the wound. He
is getting along fairly well at this

THE CHARM
OF MOTHERHOOD
Enhanced By Perfect Physi
cal Health.
The experience of Motherhood is a try
ing one to most women and marks dis
tinctly an epoch in their lives. Not one
woman in a hundred is prepared or un
derstands how to properly care for her
self. Of course nearly every woman
nowadays has medical treatment at such
times, but many approach the experi
ence with an organism unfitted for the
trial of strength, and when it is over
her system has received a shock from
which it is hard to recover. Following
right upon this comes the narvous strain
of caring for the child, and a distinct
change in the mother results.
- There is nothing more charming than
a happy and healthy mother of children,
and indeed child-birth under the right
conditions need be no hazard to health or
beauty. The unexplainable thing, is
that, with all the evidence of shattered
nerves and broken health resulting from
an unprepared condition, and with am
ple time in which to prepare, women
will persist in going blindly-to the trial.
Every woman at this time should rely
upon Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable
Compound, a most valuable tonic and
invigorator of the female organism.
In many homes
once childless there
are now children be
cause of the fact
that Lydia E. Pink
ham's Vegetable
Compound makes
women normal,
healthy and strong.
