OREGON CITY COURIER, TflURSfc AY, OCTOBER 1, 1914. In tk PRE OREGON Pivs' S In order to clearly demonstrate the fact that the Theory of State Wide Prohibition is Morally and Legally Impossible, the issue, after tremendous effort, has been rendered nearly Human in the character of S. W. Prohibition who is made a defendant before the voters of Oregon. It is the sincere hope' of the Prosecutor of S. W. Prohibition that those who have believed in him in Eastern States and know his rec ord, will refrain from demonstrations during the course of the trial and j that no violence be resorted to by those who have put their faith in 'him in Oregon and who may become indignant when the evidence , against him is introduced. - The Prosecution desires to make an open statement to the effect that all sympathy and respect is entertained iax those who have been supporters of S.W. Prohibition prior to his arrest and for those who have been at his side in the preliminary arraignment. The Prosecu tion holds this sympathy and respect as it is freely admitted that S. W. Prohibition is a very clever man. The trial of S. W. Prohibition is a prosecution against the theory of the proposed state-wide amendment and is not an attack against the supporters of the theory whose motives are no doubt above reproach. OPENING STATEMENT Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury : The Defendant, S. W. Prohibition has been placed on trial on the complaint of 1400 Oregon Hop Farmers who arraign hirrj on the fol lowing charges : Intemperance. Obtaining Recognition Under False Pretenses.
