OREGON CITY COURIER, THURSDAY JULY 30, 1914. DRUGS NOT NEEDED How to Keep Health without the Use of Drugs or Knife Dr. Harvey W. Wiley, who is .run ning Woods Hutchinson a close race for the spotlight of medical notoriety, said recently to a gathering of moth ers in Washington, D. C, "Most dis eases of children are spread through the medium of the school room. The day, however, is soon coming when every pupil will be FORCED to un dergo a strict daily medical examina tian and then we will see the end of these epidemics of child diseases." Again you see that FORCE is the keynote of the medicine men. They are not asking permission to do this but intend to force their fads on the children. But why wait for the daily examination? With their serums as a panacea for all ills and already in control of things, why don't they cure these diseases now with their "preventive medicines?" If they can't "stamp them out" now they can not any other time. It is an admission that "medical" inspection of school children is a failure. The truth is that these diseases of chil dren are caused by vaccination and wrong feeding. Parents do not feed their children properly and when you put filthy vaccine poisons into a child already suffering from the affects of tea, coffee, milk, ice cream, pop corn, candy pie cakes, pastry, too much meat and starchy foods, they readily succumb to such ills as scarlet fever, ch-,enpox, measles, mumps, diph and other diseases. In fact, epidemics of these diseases invariab ly follow wholesale vaccination . and serumizing and nothing will stop them until the people stop this ab surd and dangerous ' inspection , of school children. If your school board won't stop it put in a board that will: Let "Anti-Vaccination" be your slo gan. Salt Chloride of Sodium is table salt. It is composed of chlorine gas, in tensely negative, and sodium, an in tensely positive mineral element. When united they blind the sense of taste and its continued use so blunts the sense of taste that 'nothing pleases except salt or condiments of equal intensity. It is a mineral so hard that it cannot be digested or utilized in the metabolism of the sys tem and it decrystalizes and leaves the system as it enters it. Every cell in the system that ab sorbs salt contracts and disgorges its albumen and other constructive ele ments. It hardens the tissues and ar teries and shrivels the corpuscles of the blood and causes arterio selero sis or hardening of the arteries, a di sease usually fatal under medical treatment. It obstructs natural ab sorption of food and disturbs osmo sis, or filtering through the mem brane. It interferes with secretion and excretion, prevents the formation of fibrin and dissolves the globules. When used to pickle meat it caus es scurvy, salt rheum, skin diseases, Bright's disease and diabetes. It creates unnatural thirst and stimu lates a desire for drink. It will kill birds and fowls; is a good disinfec tant and has no good use in domes tic economy. English stock breeders have found it detrimental to the high est development of prize stock and have excluded it from all food. Goitre in Women Many women suffer from goitre or swelled neck. It is an enlargement YOUR of the thyroid gland in the throat and is directly traceable to uterine and ovarian disturbances from which few women are free. The eyeballs protrude and rapid heart action is present and the patient is very ner vous and irritable. These are the chief symptoms. The medical men of course advise an operation which is disastrous. It can be cured by any good drugless doctor in a short time without operations or drugs. Sex Hygiene and Eugenics The school boards of Denver and San Francisco have dropped the teaching of sex hygiene in the pub lic schools. The experiment was not successful. Likewise "Eugenics," one Of the latest hallucinations of the medical fraternity is doomed to obliv ion. A prominent couple recently married and held up as "Eugenic" mates, are now in the divorce courts each accusing the other of lying about their physical condition. Where did the doctors even learn anything about "Eugenics" and what do they know about it? The fad originated with the medical trust as a measure to increase private medical practice and was shoved through various state legislatures by the political doctors and grabbed by idiotic fad dists as the salvation of the human race. In company with school inspec tion, vaccination, "preventive medi cine" etc., it is only a part of the bunko game being worked on the people under the pretext of "protect ing" their health whereas it is only a graft, for you notice that only duly qualified and licensed physicians of the medical variety have anything to do with these crazy stunts. The people are already slowly awakening to this fact and will consign such ob sessions to the scrap pile. How About This? The Army and Navy Journal of July 11 gives figures to show that since American soldiers left Texas City and arrived in Vera Cruz sick ness, chiefly malaria, dysentery, ty phoid, etc., has increased near)7 150 per cent and explains that the dis eases are carried by flies. Yea, ver ily. I knew it would come. The Navy surgeons, all allopaths, have been trying for a year nearly, to ex plain why an epidemic of smallpox swept the battleship Ohio. They have not yet explained why an epi demic of measles or scarlet fever re cently swept the Cruiser Vicksburg. Probably the explanation is waiting to join the one expceted from the French army doctors why, out of 720,000 soldiers of the active French army, 250,000 men were down sick at one time recently with measles. The fact si that the present craze of "preventive medicine" is responsible for the whole thing. Soldiers and sailors are forcibly compelled to un dergo vaccination and serumizing and outraged Nature rebels. Instinct and horse sense would tell an idiot that if the system is pil ed full of these rotten, diseased, com bined human and animal filths, Na ture does all she can to overcome them and expel- them in order to save your life. Yet, these are the gentlemen, the medical politicians, who hold every office in sight that has to do with the public health and are now trying to make the use of these poisons compulsory. The tax payers of Oregon are robbed of $1000 a year by a law that compels them to pay that amount annually for small pox vaccine. Unless this absurd su perstition of "preventive medicine" All Our WW? To Visit Our New Store; which is Filled with NEW MERCHAN DISE from All Markets Every Article, Piece and Parcel of Merchandise Spick Span New STORE! Come is sooner or later checked by law and the rotting ' of the human system is stoppea the worst epiaemics oi ai sease the world has ever known will wipe the human civilized races off the earth. The great increase oi such diseases as cancer, tuberculosis, meningitis, diphtheria and children's diseases is directly due to the whole sale vaccination for smallpox, during the past fifty years. We are now reaping the whirlwind and will con tinue to reap until the fad dies a nat ural death or is stopped by law. Thej are now forcing the national guard of the various states to be serumized fo. typhoid and Camille Du Moulin oi the Massachusetts Guard and Clar ence Pantzer of the New York Guard died after inoculation. It also caus ed the death of a Mrs. Mercer and three children. Dr. L. M. Warfield in the Journal of the A. M. A., June 22, 1912, said: "In vaccination one is really given the fever in a mild form." The greatest minds of the medical profession have declared against sc rums but the rank and file rjeed the money and are going to get it as long as the people can be buncoed into dig ging up. The Chicago Medical Recorder for May, 1914, states that every man, wo man and child of the Mexican pris oners at El Paso, numbering over 50000, were forcibly vaccinated and serumized at the same time. Some rebelled and were put in the "bull pen" on a restricted diet, until they yielded. During the Ohio River floods boats sent out by the government to save lives displayed signs "No Vaccina tion No Rations." This is what we are coming to in Oregon unless you wake up and elect men to office who stand for equal rights and medical freedom. In Louisiana A bill to authorize medical inspec tion in the public schools was killed in the legislature. A bill has been re ported favorable, to require medical examination of man and woman ap plicants for marriage. Benighted Lou isiana.. Such laws have moral stan dards and make people live together without the formality of marriage, but the doctors must have the money. In Minnesota The Minneapolis Journal says: "J. Girard, 4317 Muarve St., N. E., was taken to the smallpox hospital today as a patient. Girard asserts that he has been vaccinated nine times at the shop where he is employed, again at his home and seven times previously." I heard Dr. Calyin S. White state publicly in St. Johns, when urging people to be vaccinated, that "if you are vaccinated twice you will never have smallpox," and the taxpayers are paying him $5,000 a year to ped dle such rot over the state. This ought to be proof enough that Gir ard was given smallpox by vaccina tions. Dr. Van Brakle I recently wrote Dr. Van Brakle, and I am right, that the question in volved in his case is strictly a con stitutional one, which fact it seems impossible to beat into lawyers' heads It is not a question of whether the state board of health has the right to remove him or not, or that he should be "a graduate of a repu table MEDICAL school." The state board of health as it exists today is an illegal body and has no standing in law. Thp Rtjifntp sflvs? "the stat.A hnnrd of health shall consist of six mem- ' Ma in -liU u Now Open For Business in Inspect our Line Of Dry Goods, Clothing, Shoes, Hats and FurnisWngs.-WE SAVE YOII MONEY CORNER EIGHTH AND bers and a secretary who shall be reputable physicians." A physician is a man who gives physic. The board consists exclusively of medical doctors, a monopoly, to the exclusion of all other classes of doctors, mak ing the rankest kind ot class legis lation, which is illegal, besides being a monopoly in violation ot law. ihe constitution of the U. S. guarantees 'equal rights to all, special privileg es to none," and Section 20 of Article t of the Oregon Constitution FOR BIDS ANY LAW BEING PASSED vhich "gives to any citizen or class if citizens privileges or immunity lot enjoyed equally by all citizens or :lass of citizens." The stat under its alleged "police powers" quoted so liberally by the medical politicians, cannot infringe on the constitution or supersede it. The Constitution no more contemplates state allopathic medicine or placing the lives of all the people in charge of one school of healing than it does to make Holy Rollers a state religion or place them in charge of and compel all people to accept their belief in matters of religion. The law that says a man in order to be a health officer must be a graduate of a "medical" college is rank class legislation and forbidden by the Constitution as it gives "spec ial privilege" to one class of doc tors, to the exclusion of all other classes. In Oregon practitioners of all schools are on an equal footing. Be ing "licensed" cuts no figure. Law yers must remember we live under a Constitutional government and not under a medical dictatorship. By Dr. W. A. Turner, Naturopath (Questions relating to health mat ters will be answered if accompanied by a 2 cent stamp and sent to me care of Hotel Edwards, Portland, Oregon.). A. HENRI WRITES GREAT LETTER-SERMON Says the So-Called Successful Man Is a Thief and a Rascal Mr. G. A. Henri and Dr. W. T. Milliken have for some time been dis cussing the scientific value of the Bi ble as seen from their different view points. Mr. Henri holds that what ever of practical value there is to be found in the Bible has been delivered from such small scientific knowledge as was possessed by the Ancient Bib lical writers. Dr. Milliken, on the other hand contends that the inspir ed truths of the Bible are the source of practically all modern scientific knowledge. In the following communication Mr Kenri presents his case in a very clear and logical manner, and it will be indeed interesting to see what means Dr. Milliken will find to refute his contention that the Bible is not wholly a good book, but that, just a,s a fertilizer causes weeds as well as wheat to grow, so the Bbile may in spire evil deeds as well as the good. Editor Courier: In regard to a communication from Mr. W. T. Milliken published in the Courier of July 16, will ' you kindly permit me to call Mr. Milliken's spec ial attention to a few statements in his communications? My dear friend Milliken "What do you wish me to prove?" If I have criticised the Bible or ; Christianity, nends a 'ep&rtinnienit MAIN -:- OPPOSITE COURT HOUSE "What else can I do?" Should I eat of the poisonous fruit and then die, you wouldn not in vestigate the cause of my death, any more than you believe my words. Furthermore, why should I worry, if anyone thinks 1 am talking- thru my hat, when, if a fool criticises a philosopher, it does not make the philosopher in the wrong neither does it put me in the wrong, if any one thinks I am talking through my hat. It only reveals my adversary's ignorance or prejudice. The same as when two men were walking down the road, and suddenly they saw a snake. One of them said "Do not go near him, his teeth are poisnoous, and I think his bite is death. I know him by his rattling tail." But the other man said, "You fool! How can you know him by his rattling tail, and think his bite is poisonous?" And he 'walked nearer, and the result was death. Who was the fool and the murder er? Should the first one have dem onstrated his words as true? Had he with his death shown the effects of the snake's bite, they both had been murderers. The one in his kind ness, and the other in his stuborn ess. Or do you ask me for a sign? If so, no other sigh shall be given to you but the signs of the times. Those who live and have eyes to see with see, and ears to hear with they hear, and a brain to think with they think. But that you may learn for your self to understand, that science is greater than the Bible, and that scientific knowledge has power to dis miss all graft, theft, murder and so on, which you say the Bible standard will run into hell. We shall suppose as yo usay, that the standards of the Bible were suddenly accepted in all its implications by the children of man, and the children of men knew no more than the contents of the Bi ble, from the beginning to the end how it tells about murder, theft and graft, and the sacrifice of human life, and the sacrifice of blood. Then suppose they had no scientific knowledge whatsoever, not even had any experiences or knowledge of how to produce the necessities of life. What would happen, if not just what you said, would be that graft, theft, murder and so on would be driven like a thunderbolt upon the children of man. Brother would raise his hand against his brother and father against his son, and blood would be sacrificed to the one they thought was the living god. They would eat each other alive, because no one had any scientific knowledge of how to produce for himself the necessities of life. If we then, on the other hand, sup pose, the children of men had no knowledge of the Bible whatsoever, but everyone had a scientific know ledge of what scientific facts it takes to keep up life; by knowing this they would be able to produce the necessities of life. If everyone had a scientific knowledge of how to pro duce after the methods of today, no one would need to steal, graft or murder. You are right when you say that I am not very successful. If there are any rascals in the church or anywhere else, I will not judge. But who are the rascals if not those who are successful? Is not he a thief that is successful enough to own more than he needs ,and a grafter If nd he is successful enough to live upon the products of someone else? Both being murderers, if the least one die of need of what the thief has in his possession, or someone die while pro ducing what the grafter should have produced ? Now then, are not these which are scientific facts facts you can see and judge for yourself greater than the commands of the Christ. You say it is commanded "Love thy neighbor as thy self." "Love thy enemy," and so on. You call me to witness if we have mastered yet those commands? i will ispeak for myself and no one else. I hope I never will love my neigh bor as myself, as I try not to love myself. I can not even love my ene my nor pray for those that persecute me, because I have no enemy and no one persecutes me. Then, if I have no enemies, or no one persecutes me, should I then make enemies and cause others to persecute me, that I could love and pray for them? Should I do all this, knowing, that if I lose my life, I shall find it in all my selfish ness? . i That you may understand my ex planation of science how the physi cal can act upon a fact, let me ask you "How can electricity, by going through an insolated copper wire, wound around a bar of iron, act up on this bar of iron and magnetize it? Magnetism in itself is a force that cannot be seen, although acting up on another bar of iron it causes an action, which shows it is there. So with science. Human thought, acting through the physical senses upon a fact, causes science, which in itself is a farce, but has to act upon another fact to show it is there. If you had not, as you say, spent a life work in reforming others, to a Christianity that brings theft, graft, murder and so on (because, how can it bring anything else, when it learns not how to produce?) A Christianity that condemns selfishness and com mands "Love thy neighbor as thy self," which would be no love. And commands "Love thy enemy," and "pray for those who persecute you," when you have no enemies, and no one persecutes you. Do not spend a life work trying to take out the trifle in your brother's eye, but take out the beam in your own eye. You might be then able to see how the scientists of today are summarizing the laws of thought, the same as the laws of electricity. Remember there are scientists greater than those men tioned in any paper. Those mention ed in the papers are only getting names among men. Do not tear down the crown and pride of all civilization: THE SCIEN TIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO WORK AND PRODUCE. That you may not graft, steal and murder, which science tolls us are unnecessi ties for life. As ashes are a good fertilizer for the wheat as well as weeds, so even is the Bible good for the evils as well as for the good, but as it takes scientific work to clean the weeds from the wheat, so even does it take scientific work to keep the civilization of man clean from weeds. C ustonien ORE ANOTHER VIEWPOINT : t Mr. Kelnhofer Answers- Mr. Cridge by Another Illustration Editor Courier: I notice in your last issue an ar ticle in which Alfred Cridge gives a vivid description upon taxaton and domes right down to brass tacks of. how the $1500 exemption amendment would work out in the case so elab orately illustrated. He distinctly deplores the nine dol lars fine that is imposed upon the farmers described, for clearing 10 acres of land and thinks it unjust and discouraging to future improvements on that account. But let us look at the other side of this case. Supposing this farmer puts these 10 acres just cleared into potatoes, and a very conservative es timate should give him 500 sacks of potatoes. The average price for the last 10 years has been about 85 to 50c per hundred. But figuring at only 80 cents per 100 lb would bring him $400.00. Now Mr. Cridge, would it be such an awful clamity to this farmer if he had to pay nine dollars more taxes for the improvement? Would that discourage him to clear 10 more acres if he could? Louis Kelnhofer. Market Report , The local market is being supplied bv farmers and local gardeners with vegetables of various varieteis, and a good demand is found. The mar ket of last Friday on Fifht and Main Street, where fresh vegetables , were brought in by farmers, was well pat ronized and as soon as the sales com monced there was a steady demand for the wares of the farmers. AH morning women could be seen carry ing vegetables to their homes, and it was decided by several farmers to bring a larger supply on; next mar ket day., Fruits are finding as good a de mand as vegetables and include peaches, apples, plums and berries. California watermelons and musk mellons in large lots hav ebeen re ceived in the local market and are of excellent quality. There was never a larger demand for the California melons than this year. The peach crop as well as the plum crop of Clackamas County will be large this year. The late apple crop will be as good, but the Grav enstein and Red Astrachan apples will fall short. The following is a report from the Portland Union Stock Yards' Company, regarding the livestock situation: Gentlemen: Receipts thee week have been: cattle, 555; calves 16; hogs 1680; sheep, 4039. Light receipts of cattle for the week, with good demand, prices be ing fully 25 cents higher on all grad es. Top on steers, $7.25 to $7.30; cows and heifers of best quality mov ing at $6.00. Swine rnu also light, outlet broad and demand urgent, $8.95 was top first half 'of the week, but price rap idly climbing to the 9 cents level, as two loads sold Friday at $8.90. Medium receipts of sheep and lambs, both in quality and quantity. Very little east of the mountain stuff offering, most of the receipts being from Western Oregon points. Prime wethers $4.50 to $4.75; prime ewes $3.85 to $4.00; medimu ewes $3.25 to $3.75; spring lambs $5.50 to $6.00. re
