The best cure for feather eating bens
Is to put them In potpies. Handled in
this way they give no more trouble.
It Is the verdict of those who have
tasted It that a roast of Argentine beef
is distinctly inferior to a roast from a
North American corn belt steer.
Although corn was the lost cereal to
be generally cultivated, it is now
grown more extensively than any oth
er, with the exception of wheat
Along about now It is hard to beat
for relish a dish of dandelion greens
cooked with a piece "of tender salt
pork or ham. The human system seems
to crave the tonics which these weeds
contain.
One of the great trials of the coaxing
sprlug duys Is that a fellow cannot be
busy from daylight to dark in three or
four places at once. Most any of us
could lay out work for three or four
folks to do.
Every fly killed now means, accord

Notwithstanding the pluln need of
smaller farms and a more intensive
type of agriculture, the census reports
seem to indicate that the average size
of farms in the country is on the In
crease ruther than decrease.
When land Is plowed too wet It is
often put in a physical condition which
is not righted for years. Soil plowed
in this condition becomes puddled or
packed together, bakes when it dries
and becomes lumpy and hard.
The average stallion owner is on to
the psychological effect of contrast, for
it Is usually a pretty small pony be
uses In taking biin about. Then, too,
the pony may look smaller than he
renlly is In contrast to so large a horse.
It Is hard to realize the fact when
the little tree is set out, but a hard
maple should have not less than forty
to fifty feet in which to develop lat
erally, while an elm should not have
less than sixty or seventy feet If It is
to bevsymmetiical at maturity.
The fact that water sparkles and
tastes good is no guide at all in deter
mining its freedom from chemical im
purities or disease germs. Where cess
pools or other sources of contamination
are near the well and the subsoil Is in
any degree porous there is good reason
for suspecting a contamination of the
water supply.
Salvias make a most desirable bed
ding plant, both from the standpoint
of their bright, showy blossoms and
the richness and luxuriance of foliage.
The bed in which the plants are set
should be well manured and should
be given frequent cultivation. The
plants should be given plenty of room
in which to grow- "

often results in stunting rather than

Figures compiled for the year 1009
showed that the average consumption
of meat In the United States was 172
pounds per capita. The consumption at
the present time is put at about ten
pounds per capita less. In Australia
nnd Areentlna. where meat is very
cheap, Its consumption is placed at 250
oounds tier capita yearly, in t-ngmnu
the figures are 120 pounds annually.
Clean cultivation and rotation of
crops are among the best Insecticides
for practical use. Insects of all kinds
thrive best when let alone and are
hard nut to it when the soli is ire-
quently cultivated. Rotation is a help
because of the fact that Insects that
thrive on one crop may not do well on
some other crop used In the rotation
rotation keeps 'em

While the May and early June pas
ture Is usually luxuriant it does not
contain a large per cent of nutritive
elements, being mostly water. For
tWs reason It is well to supplement
the pasture with other feed, especially
In the case of cows that are In full
milk. A mixture of two parts of cot
tonseed meal, one part of cornmeal
and one part of bran Is a good com
bination, the amount fed depending
somewhat upon the abundance of the
pasture, size of cow and amount of
milk given.

REVELATIONS .INDEED!
It is very strange how some kinds
of religion run to insanity and some
kinds of insanity to religion. After
perusing the following1 communica
tion from J. L. Jones, the editor had
to "take something" very quickly In
order to re-establish his mental equi
librium. If Dr. Milliken or any one
else can bring the view set forth
here into conformity with any branch
of modern science, whether zoologi
cal, theological or other, we cheerful
ly yield him the palm. There is only
one point upon which we feel com
petent to refute the testimony of our
learned correspondent, and that has
o do with the allegorical whale which
swallowed the allegorical Jonah.
Upon this point however we are firm;
for in another column we are pub
lishing today a communication from
one of our friends who has, within the
present week; observed the identical
animal which did the swallowing, be-
sporting himself in mid-Pacific, still
alive and well. Compare the theories
of these two writers.
The book of Revelations is really a
book of mystifications. Revelation
means something revealed or made
plain, but this is a sealed book that
has never been explained. It is writ
ten in sign language or symbolism,
the same as that used by the cartoon
ists and "funny paper" men. It con
tains pictorial prophecies of the re
ligious and political history of the
world for 2,000 years. The seals ar
opened now because the prophecies
are almost fulfilled.
The dragon of revelation is primi
tive paganism or animalism, human
nature in the raw and rude. This
oldfwoolly dragon is all the same as
the 'whale that swallowed Jonah. The
Jonah story is an allegory. Jonah
is a symbol for the Hebrew race, the
double Kingdom of Israel and Juda
swallowed by Assyria and Babylon.
The pagan Sphinx is another symbol
of the same thing. The dragon is the
animal humanity, the human race
that drags on the earth through the
ages of time.
Daniel s golden image is anotner
picture of it. Babylon which swal
lowed Israel was the head; then' came
Greece, Persia, and Rome. We are
now at the end of the iron age ,tne
iron rule of pagan Rome. The dra
gon gave up its power to the beast.
Uut ol tne ruins oi imperial nome
rose the modern European monarches.
The beast with the seven heads and
ten horns represents the European
military and monarchical system. The
second and later beast with two heads
is Republicanism and Democracy. The
three kinds of government an Imper
ialism or Empire, Monarchy or King
dom, and Republic or popular govern
ment. But Republicanism as we have it is
only a false pretense. The second
beast compels ail people to worsnip
the image of the first beast and re
ceive his mark. The constitution of
the United States is an image or imi
tation. It was copied as closely as
possible after the model of the En
glish monarchy. The "mark of the
beast" is the Dicture of an animal
or predatory bird such as the eagle
on coins and flags and coats of arms.
It is also, the mark of animalism
stamped on the face and form of the
mortal humanity, mis is tne Drana
of Cain. The divine image is blurred
and blotted out.- In the Mew Dispen
sation the divine image and order
will be restored and the worship of
the Beast and its image abolished.
The mystic number of the dragon
that is, the period of duration is
"seven times" 360, which makes 2520
years. Reckoning from 606 B. C. the
time of the end of the Kingdom of
Tiirfnh. hrinirs us to 1914 A. D. THe
number of the first beast is 1260, half
of 5220. The-number ot the seconu
beast is 666. The ten kingdoms
i more or lessl of Europe originated
about 1260 years ago. Representa
tive o-nvernment beean with the Mag'
np Chart 1215 but did not take form
till about 40 years later in the first
House of Commons. Cartoons or sym

The whole beastly business ends
simultaneously and soon in two great
battles called in Revelations, Gog
and MaGog, and Armageddon. These
battles have been going on all the
time, indeed, but pretty soon they
come to a crisis. The world has nev
er heen anvthincr else but a universal
rough-house. "History's pages but
record one death-grapple in the dark
ness, 'twixt false systems and the
Word." The nations and tribes of the
world have fought like fowl in a barn
yard or beasts in a jungle. That is
the dragori or animal nature. The
worst is yet to come, so you had bet
