New Type of Car Fender.
J. R. Mngulre of Philadelphia has
patented a street car fender which he
claims will be efficacious under any
and all conditions. As described by
him, the device Is a combination of the
"dropping lever" and the projecting
type fender. A movable bar, banging
from the front of the fender and ex
tending out several Inches, Is forced
back when any object strikes It, and
by means of n chain thus pulled on a
lever the fender prooer drops flush
with the track. The motorman may
also operate the device from his plaes
In the car.
Motor Railway Engine.
Mr. Diesel, on whose original designs
the majority of high power modern oil
engines have been built, has been
working for some years on n high
speed locomotive for railway use and
has now built lu Berlin an englue of
1,200 horsepower which hns been de
signed for passenger traffic. The en
gine weighs eighty-five tons and hns
two sots of Diesel engines working at
right angles to each other. A small

II. Babbler, coming, in with his
threshing outfit, saved the grain
of quite a few of our fanners.
Some are still waiting for the
machine, Mr. Bonney having gone
up to Highland. A few have some
grain in tho shock yet.
P. C. Richardson has sold his
place here for $10,000. He has
gone into Iho mercantile business
up in Idaho and we wish him suc
cess. Parties of this vicinily, having
produce for county exibition can
leave tho same at L. Fr ink's at
any time before tho 21st. inst.,
and they will be taken care of.
Tho potato blight is certainly
playing havoc with the late crop !
and unless it turns warm and
checks this pest, the crop won't
be one-third the size it should be.
Mr. and Mrs. Abbot and the
mother of the latter, Mr. and Mrs.
Class and son, Mr. and Mrs.
Fullam, Clara and Johnie Eul
lam spent Sunday at Mr. and Mrs.
L. F'rinks' place.
The chicken thieves are evi
dently are at their old trade as
they made a call on George Gill
and cleaned out all but a few
little ones and four old moulting
hens. If you hear of some being
filled with fine shot some of these
days you may know that we have
the night raiders, as thero are
more than one on this job.
J. T. Fullam and L. Frink both
sold a bunch of sheep and invest
ed in a registered Cotswold buck,
each.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Hughes attend
ed the fair at Salem and while
there purchased an 8 months
bull and a two years old heifer
of 'the Geurnsey breed.
Jess O. Oldham is disposing of
his odds and ends and will move
to Newburg as soon as ho gels
straightened out where ho intends
to farm in the future
