MOUNTAIN VIEW
Grading on Duane street was begun
Monday morning and will soon make
quite a pretty street. This has been
needed for a long time, as the street
from Molalla aveuue to the cemetery
lias been very muddy daring the W6t
season.
Mr. Imbler's cottago on Pleasant
avenue looms up on the kric 11 where
it is uuiit and will be a fine place
when completed.
The ladies of the Bible Glass at this
place surprised Mrs J. H. Quiuu on
her birthday last Tuesday and made
her a very substantial present. All
had a nice time aud departed wishing
her many more returus of the day.
The church has been treated to one
coat of paint aud another wi 11 be put
on this week. A new aud neat little
wood house has been built and the
ladies aro intending to put the inside
of the church in a bettor condition.
We hope to see a greater interest tak
en in church work and the Sunday
school. If ouo-third of the people at
tended there would be enough to nil
the ohurch each Sunday. ' Ouo hour is
all that it takes of oar timo, and we
surely can spare that much one day in
seven.
Everybody is busy oleaning house
and making garden.
Mrs. Oarrico and Mrs. Will Hall
and Adaline Cnrrin went to Rocktord
last Sunday.
J omo Gurrin came homo for a short
time last Sunday, being able to come
for the first time since her illness.
Joe Gerber made his regular trip to
our burg last Sunday.
Millard Gillotte has been appointed
alternate to West Point aud will go
to Presidio, Gal., for examination
Udxt month. We are proud of Millard
and he is an example of what hoys
can do that try. lie began at the
bottom and is looking aud olimbiug
higher. We see many, who have a
good if not better opportunities,
smoking oigarettos aud playing pool.
When thev come out on life's battle
field to till. o uu the armour of doing
for themselves, can they be men? We
fear for thoir future.
Mrs. J. P. Koehl continues very
feeble and there is not much hone for
iier recovery.
Little Minnie Quum, who has been
vory ill, is considerably improved.
Mrs. Urawford was pleasantly sur
prised laBt Wednesday when the Bible
Glass of Mountain View all came in
through the back door, each bringing
material tor piecing a qnnc moon.
Tho merry orew soon settled down to
work amid chatter and laughter and
they soon completed their quilt blocks
and presented them to Mrs. Urawrord
as a birthday present from the Bible
Glass, as it was her birthday. Many
other useful presents wore brought.
After the work was done Mrs. Parker
and Mrs. Aldrich served dainty re
freshments, which all enjoyed

March 15th, the boys of the gram
mar grades of Parkplace and Glad
stone met in a game of baseball, Park

gave a little party. It was -reported
that everyone had a good t ime.
Walter Monger, the tall giant of the
school, wires up houses to pass away

The school team not only beat Glad
stone, but took great delight in trim
ming the brows of Grosham by a
score of 11 to 0. The batteries were:

tended the funeral of thoir aunt in

Mrs. Leander Capeu has more thau
her share of trouble. About a mouth
ago she buried her lather and last
week her mother was called away.
Her many friends here extend their
deepest sympathy.
Mrs. Millard Hyatt aud two chil
dren returned to their home here to
upend the summer. Mrs. Hyatt will
improve her property with a view of
selling the same. We are glad to
have her with us ouoe wore, she hav-
ing been a resident of Willamette for
several years, but for the past five
vears the family lived in Portland.
Mrs. N. K. Grlvert was a guet of
friends in Vanoouver the last of the
week.
The band boys gave an entertain
ment Thursday evening. The boys
are surprising their friends by their
display of musical talent. Their
leader, Mr. L. Moehuke. is a fine in
structor. The Willamette people are
justly proud of their boys.

H. G. Huntington went to Oregon
City last week and bought a team of

CLACKAMAS
The Clackamas school baseball team
defeated the Harmony school team on
the Clackamas diamond, Friday af
ternoon, March 17, by a score of 7 to
5. The boys were much interested in
the game, as the schools are old riv
als, Harmony deleatiug Olaohamas
last year. The boys have a fast team
and are hoping to win the champion
ship in the oounty league this year.
Tliny came second on the list last year
and have many of the same players on
the team again this Benson.
Firday evening the Ladies' Aid of
the Congregational ohurch gave a St
Patrick's Day entertainment at the
Grange hall and served refresmenta
after the program. The prinoipal
features were the marriage ot Mr,
Short aud Miss Long, and several In
dians and negroes in full costume,
wiio were offering articles for sale.
After the program the bridal couple
were dosed with enough rice to last
them some time, provided it had been
delivered to them in the proper fash
ion instead of being thrown over

and it is reported he is going to build

chased a lot in the center of Clacka
mas, next to the school house.
Harold and Craig Dedman are the
latist victims of the epidemio of
measles we have had this winter.
The collection of the MethodiBt
Sunday school for March 19 was set
aside for the starving Chinese. It
amounted to $3.75, and the Junior
League had already donated $1 to the
fund, making the total amount so far
$4.75.

This is one of the most wonderful
springs that is on record in this part

The spelling school has beeu a great
success and now has a short program
at the close of the evening, it being
held every Tuesday evening, and the
school house has been crowded at
most every meeting. Most everyone
present takes part aud all seem to
enjoy themselves.

The debate last week between the
Olairmont Literary Society aud the
Cams Literary Society was greatly
enjoyed by all fortunate enough to
hear it. Although Olairmont won,
the Carus debaters were so interest
ing that the return challenge they
gave us was unanimously accepted.
The basket social will be held next
