Ernst represented the com pany In this city for several months, and while hero married Mrs. Augusta Stewart, a well respected woumu re siding in Clackamas Heights. Short ly after the nuptials, Ernst, failing to force his wife into turning her Huo farm over to him, ho oommoucod to treat her in a cruel and inhuman man ner, and one day deserted her. It was shortly after this disappearance that tho insurance company noticed a de ficiency in the amounts sent in by Sig. , so the authorities thero wore untitled. Justice W. W. II. Samson and Constable P. A. Milts kept their weather eyes open for the offender, and their vigilance was rewarded En day, when Miles walked in on Sig , who was making himself comfortable at Harrishnrg, in Lin t county, and placed him under arrest.
