MILWAUKEE. The new gravel walk, running from Main street to W. H. Grasle's prop erty, is now packed down aud is a great improvement to the loos 8 of tl.is portiou of the oitv as well as a 10m tort to the various resident?, especi ally the school children, who were formerly obliged to wado through mud to reach the school house. The walk was laid by Boad Supervisor W. H. Counsell, and the cost was $1G0, all of whioh was raised by pri vate subscription. One of the most enjoyable social affairs held in Milwaukee in some time vas the social given at the school house Friday night by the pupils and teachers of the Milwaukee school. A "umber of the parents of the scholars and a few friends of the school were present. The new assem bly rooms of the schotl were prettily decorated for the occasion by the ipress themselves as being highly pleased, aud the evening brought the teachers, scholars aud patents into a closer relationship W. F. Lehman has reoputly pur chased a baud of sheep from a Mo lalla stock raider, and the meat eating porriot of Milwaukee's population will find the choicest mutton at his shop. Edison Edwards, a prominent young man of this city, has gone to Oakland, California, tor au indefinite, virfit, a fact that will be noted with regret by the young people of this city, as Edison has been prominent at all of the social gatherings iu the past and is very popular. J. E. Wetzler has finished plaster ing the Evangelical church building, and left tor Seaside, whe e he has the oontract for the plastering of Kruse's Beach Hotol, the line new hostelry- that is being erected there. The members of the Milwaukee Band are making elaborate prepara tions for the masque ball and cake walk they will hold on New Year's eve in the City Hall. Three cash prizes will be given to the best cake walkers. Rev. T. F. Bowan. rector of St. Paul's Episcopal ohurcn, will hold servioes in St. John's Episcopal churchin this city Sunday at 7:80 p m. Lonsberry hauled wood for the flouring mill this week. A number of local Odd Fellows will attend the installation at Prinevilie on January 3. All of tin merchants in Madras ex. pressed themselves as satisfied with the Christmas trade. All have done a good business. John Lockhart has ressumed driving the stage between Madras and Heisler station. General Paxton, who lives near Fishers, below Mudsprings school house, was transacting business in Madras this week.
