Jess Riess, who was reoently arrest
ed on acharge of stealing a suit of
clothes, plead guilty to the indict

There will be a meeting of the stock
holders of the County Fair Association
in the Circuit Court room on the af
ternoon of Wednesday, December 2.
At this meeting, the report of the ex
ecutive committee will be read, and
plans will be made for the purchase
of the fair site.
Special Session Will Be Held Here.
After disposing of nearly all ot the
criminal cases and a number of civil
suits, the circuit court, on account of
its work being so far behind, will
hold a special term here January 18.
The cases not tried at this term will
receive the attention of the court at
the special session

& Power Company, Judge Mcbride
allowed the plaintiff $1500. The
affair ou which the suit was based
occurred lust summer wheu Warren
was assaulted by a c nductor on the
O. W. P. near Meldram. Warren
sued for $20,000 .

number of friei'ds at military hearts
Saturday eveuing at her home on
Eighth and Muuroe streets. The
affair was in honor of Miss Margaret
Goodfellow, whose marriage to Mr.
Louis Morris takes place in December.
Tne house was tastefully decorated
with vines aud chrysanthemums.
Several interseting games were played,
among them being a recipe coutest,
which attracted a great deal of atten
tion. The prize in this oontest was
awarded to Miss Nellie Oaufielil.

"Whites" Entertain Friends.
The 'J Whites," one of the sides in
the membership contest of Sola Circle.
Women of Woodoraft. entertained the
other divisions iu a royal manner in
Woodman Hall last Friday night.
The room was tastefully dooorated
with pampaB grass, ,ud in the center
of the room was a campflre with a
background of cotton covered with
silver dust, an excellent imitstion of
snow.
"The Conutry Wedding," a clever
little skit, was produced by Mrs.
Clarence Farr, A. F. Parker, Mrs.
T. E. Gault and S. F. Scripture, and
created all manner ot mirth. Another
skit, "The Latest Invention," by
A. F. Parker and Mrs. T. E. Gault,
was well played, and m as received
with the greatest enthusiasm.
After other pleasing numbers, those
present sat down to an elaborate ban
quet. Mrs. Wright Surprised.
A surprise party was given Grand
ma Wright by the ladies of Grange
No. 40 at the home of her son, R. A.
Wright, in honor of her eighty-fifth
ye'ir Sixteen guests were present,
ail of whom did duty to a most de
licious dinner. The afternoon was
spent with a good old-fashioned visit,
the most unique eveut of the day be
ing a postcard shower giveu by rela
tives aud friends irom nearly all parts
of the United S'ates. Many pretty
presents were also received. Those
present were Mrs. Dimmick and
daughter of Woodburu, Mrs. M. Case,
Mrs. August Erickson, Mrs. DauieU,
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Notts, Mrs. J.

street. Music and games occupied the
evening, and in a unique Happy

Portland, well known as a lecturer,

Rev. Montgomery is well known iu
this city, as he was pastor of the lo
cal Presbyterian church for eight
years. He delivered a lecture here two
years ago ou "Mount noou inai was
received with the greatest of interest.

gomery to the members of his church

Dancing School in Willamette Hall.
A danciug school, under the man
agement of Mies Mabel Toomath, of
New York, is being held in Willam
ette Hall every Friday night, and a
good many pupils are in attendance.
Miss Toomath formerly assisted in
Chalmer's Dancing Academy, well
knowu as the leading institution ol
the kind in New York City. A
monthly dancing party will be given
by the pupils, the nrst or which win
occur on Friday, December 5.
