The Educational Rally held at Lo
gan the evening of the 11th, was well
attended by the people of Logan and
suroundlng districts. The talk given
by Superintendents Ackerman and
Gary, were instructive and highly ap
preciated. It is very encouraging to note in
terest manifested in behalf of the
country , schools. The educational
rallys being held throughout the coun
ty, seem to be a new departure. There
being several objects in view. First,
to draw parents and teachers into a
closer relationship for the betterment
of the pupils. Again, Mr. Ackerman
hopes by coming into personal contact
with the country people and the coun
try schools while in regular session,
to be more able to judge of the re

for the betterment of their condition.
We all feel much -encouraged, and

Redland,
Quite a crowd attended the meeting
at the grange hall last Wednesday
night to hear State Superintendent
Ackerman and County Superintendent
Gary. Prof. Ackerman's topic was,
"The Home and Schools as a Unit."
His address in part was to the effect
that you cannot expect the teacher to
improve your children if yourselves
do not set a high standard for them.
He cited a grave mistake parents
make when they send an excuse by
Willie for being absent, saying that
he has been sick; when the truth was
that he probably had to stay out to
work. The speaker stated that there
are three classes of pupils: Liter
ary, hand and commercial minded.
The literary minded pupil will be
always studying; the hand minded
want to be making things. Mr. Acker
man thinks it would be wrong to
crowd him In literary matters. The
commercial minded; the boy that
starts to play marbles for keeps and
gets all of his school mate's marbles,
should have a commercial training.
The address throughout was highly
interesting as well as entertaining.
Mr. Ackerman is a strong believer in
apportioning a lump sum to school
districts instead of the present sys
tem, a matter in which your corres
pondent agrees with him.

Irreverence.
(The following communication was
recieved at the Courier office Thnis
day evening of last week, just too
late for that issue of the paper, and it
has been Mr. Kelly's request that we
give it space in tins issue. Editor. )
Editor Courier : Recently, at the
earnest solicitation of a prominent
oitizem, who said, "I want yon to
see just how irreverent and blasphe
mous Dan Shannon, the evangelist,
is," I wont to hear him, aud have re
greltod it ever since, for in all my
life I never before heard tne mime of
the Almighty Jehovah, the Infinite
Creator of the illimitable universe,
the Eternal God, before whom angels
bow and archangels veil their faces, I
never before heard the holy name
used with Bnuh flippancy, irrevere u oe
aud blusphemy,
Why the people should turn out to
hear this "evangelist" (so called) as
they do, is astonishing, for he is a
self-conceited, self -righteous ignora
mus, or, lie is a rank hypocrite. His
admirers may take either side of the
statement, as they prefer.
The good good has been accomp
lished during the recent meetings has
not been because of the "evaugelist",
hut in spite of him, for the Eternal
God "briugeth good out of evil, and
maketh the wrath of man to praise
Him."
Years ago, at my mother's knee, I
was taught to revere the ever blessed
name ot Jehovah, and I am than&ful
to be able to say that, however I may
have departed from her teachings in
other respects, I don't think I have
ever.been guilty of irrevereuce.
This evangelist is gifted in many
ways and at tiniv.s has his hearers
deeply affected and his audience won
derfully moved and seriously .think
ing, and then, God save the mark, he
spoils it all with some ribald joke or
some shocking, irreverent phrase. To
use a homely comparison lie is like
the oow that gives a pailful ot good.
delicious milk and then pats her dirty
toot right aown into it (apology flue
the cow. She don't know any better).
Moses saw a burning bush, and
turning asido to see why the besh was
not consumed, lnard the voice of God
saying, "Put thy shoes from off thy
feet, for the place where thou stand
est is holy ground." Evidently onr
"evangelist" has not derived any les
son from this scripture, or lie would
be more meek, humble, modest and
reverent.
As to the abuse he has heaped on
St. John's and St. Paul's churches
my reply is, the church waB preaching
the gospel about 2000 years before onr
revivalist wan born, and about 1600
years before the Seot he represent had
been heard of, and will still be
preRohing the same gospel and ad
ministering the Sacraments when the
subjoct of this sketoh and his irrever
ence are forgotten. Respectfully,
11. 1j. KULOj.
