Strawberry Crop Will Be
Throughout County.
Large
Mis. O. A. Hayward, of Clackamas,
was In Oregon City on a business trip
Monday morning. Mrs. Hayward says
that the berry crop In Clncknnins will
be very large this year, and that
picking will begin at that place In a
few days. The Hayward strawberry
tract consists of Vk acros, and the
varieties are Clark'B Seedling, Lovctt
and tho Wilson. The berries from the
Hayward place are marketed in Port
land, and command the highest mar
ket prices, owing to the excellent ber
ries. It. H. Ilolconib, son-in-law of
Mr. and Mrs. Hayward lias five acres
In strawberries and his crop will be
larger than that of Inst year. Messrs.
Hanson, Headman, Duncan, Hartuell
and other farmers in tho Clackamas
section, who are In the berry business
and all report good crops this year, ;
although the rains have injured some j
of the early varieties. The soli of ;
Clackamas is well adapted to the rals- i
lug of fine berries, and each year large
shipments are made from this place

Yacht Excursion to the Oaks.
A large party left Oregon City Sun
day at eleven a. m. in Andrew Natter-
lln's vacht "Annie" for the Oaks where
they disembarked and took in all tne
attractions on the grounds, starting to
return at 3 o'clock in the afternoon
and arriving in this city in good time
and without any mishap. On the way
up and down the river the excursion
ists were saluted- by all boats large
and small, along the course, and all
enjoyed a pleasant trip. Those pre

Horticultural Society Will Give Prize
to Strawberry Growers.
At tho horticultural meeting that
was held at the court house on Fri
day afternoon very little business was
transacted, The meeting was 'not as
largely attended as heretofore. It
was voted upon to give to the straw
berry growers, who are to exhibit
their berries at the coming rose Bhow,
a premium of $3.00 for the best com
mercial crate of strawberries, and $2
for the steoud best crate.
