Sues for Damages.
Suit has been filed in the circuit
court by Dr. E. A. Sommer agalnBt the
Portland Railway Light & Power com
pany to recover $1926.00 damages, al
leged to have been sustained by a
collision with an electric car, while
driving along the Canemah walk some
time last February. Meeting the car
at a narrow place where it was im
possible to pass, the doctor reigned
his horse as far away from the track
as possible. The motorman did not
stop the car and a collision was the
result, throwing the doctor to the
ground causing him to sustain serious
bruises and a badly sprained back,
from which he suffered injury to the
extent of $1400. An additional claim
for $250 for injury to his horse, $200
damage to his buggy and harness, and
$75 damage to clothing brings the
total damages to $1925. J. U. Camp
bell is attorney for the plaintiff.
The Cold Plunge.
Dr. L. G. Ice and A. A. Price are
strong advocates of the cold plunge,
since their experience Sunday after
noon. While in a small boat on the
river they were suddenly, violently
and without warning thrown into the
chilly waters of the Clackamas. The
Doctor had been trained in the art
and came up all. right, but Mr. Price
not being able to paddle his own ca
noe grasped the straw, which proved
to be a tough branch enabling him to
keep his head out of water until help
came. The river is deep, swift and
dangerous, and the utmost care should
be taken by enthusiasts of the paddle
and more especially if one never learn
ed to swim.
