Your petitioner, D. L. Wolverton,
of Oregon City, Clackamas County,
Oregon respectfully represents to
this Honorable Court as follows to
wlt: That he now has and for more than
one year last past has had the care
and custody of Harold Wolverton, a
male child who was born on the 3d
day of April, 1901, and who was six
years old on April 3d, 1907.
That the reputed father of said
minor child Is N. L. Wolverton, whose
address is unknown to this petitioner.
That the mother of said minor child
Is Nina B. Wolverton, whose address
is unknown to this petitioner.
That said N. L. Wolverton and Nina
B. Wolverton, have willfully deserted
and neglected to provide proper care
and maintenance for said Harold Wol
verton for more than one year next
preceding the date of filing this peti
tion, and that said child has no legal
guardian appointed by law.
That petitioner is the grandfather
of said Harold Wolverton, and is a fit
and proper person to adopt said child,
and has sufficient ability to furnish
suitable nurture and education for
said minor child, and resides in Clack
amas County, Oregon, and has no wife
living.
That petitioner desires to adopt said
child, Harold Wolverton, as his own
child.
Wherefore: Petitioner prays for a
decree of this Honorable Court mak

all legal intent and purpose the child

8. 8. CONVENTION.
Annual Association Opens This After
noon at Milwaukle.
The annual convention of the Clack
amas County Sunday School Associa
tion is In session this week at Mil
waukle in the Evangelical Church.
Friday evening Rev. E. S. Muckley, of
the First Christian Church of Port
land, will give his address on "The
Plea of the Child," which was so well
received at the State Convention in
Eugene, Rev. C. A. Phlpps, Oregon's
interdenominational Sunday school
field worker, will make a popular ad
dress Saturday evening on "The Call,
the Work, the Wages," and will speak
Sunday evening on "The Book We
Teach and Why." A. H. Cross, a noted
Sunday school worker, of Cleveland,
O., will talk at 3:30 o'clock Sunday
afternoon on "The Fast Express." In
the evening he will precede Mr.
Phipps in a half hour talk on "Sun
day School Success."
Women's Club.
The Women's Club held a very In
teresting meeting at Willamette Hall
Wednesday. This was an open meet
ing. Mrs. J. W. Norrls Introduced
Mrs. Lola G. Baldwin, of Portland, and
made a few introductory remarks.
Mrs. Baldwin, who Is connected with
the Travelers' Aid, spoke on the work
that this society is doing. Her re
marks were full of interest, and In
her talk she told how a woman could
travel from Portland to South Africa
under the charge of the Travelers' Aid
and would be In perfect safety while
in its care. She spoke of instances
where women go to Portland for work
and are taken in charge by the or
ganization until they can secure
work. Miss Ivy Roake sang two se
lections.
N- Threatened to Shoot Her. ;
Joseph Haas was arrested Monday
night upon complaint of his daughter,
Katherine Haas, aged 18 years. The
young lady charges that her father
threatened to shoot her with a shot
gun. Haas says that he has tried In
vain to prevent his daughter from go
ing out nights and last evening he
found her in the city park, and this
aroused his wrath. The case was dis
missed upon agreement Wednesday,
the young lady withdrawing the com

The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge
Club was entertained by Mrs. Charles
D. Latourette at her home. The first
prize was awarded to Mrs. Theodore
W. Clark, and the second prize to Miss
Sybil Lippltt. Refreshments were
served and the hostess was assisted
by her niece, Mrs. Ryland Scott, of
Portland. The parlors were prettily
decorated with roses and cosmos.
Mrs. William Nefzgor returned on
Tuesday night from Seattle, where
she went last Saturday with her Bis
ter, Miss Lucretia Hart, who was mar
ried Sunday to Mr. Oliver J. Charais,
formerly of Portland, but now of Se
attle. Mr. and Mrs. Charais are well
known In Oregon City.
Turkeys seem to be plenty, but

Mrs. F. A. Miles left Wednesday
