The prospects for a raise In the price of hops Is no more encouraging this week than It was last week, and the hop market Is practically Inactive. The price of wheat In the state re mains the same, but" In Chicago and San Francisco it has raised three cents, which will undoubtedly effect the whole market. Buyers are com mencing to buy from the inland coun ,.ioa whPBt huvera and exporters have resumed business In a limited way, with the prospect of increasing .:..oHno in a ohnrt time, and there is every indication that financial con ditions are improving, tnus euaunus thom tn nurchase their produce to a larger extent. For the past two weeks the wheat market has been at a. standstill, owing to the financial stringency, but the buyers are confi dent that by the latter part of next week 7'heat will be moved much more than it has for the past three weeks. Many prune growers of the county are fast disposing of their dried fruit, and this year will be one of prosper ity with the growers, as there is a good price for them and a ready sale. A good part of the state's product went to the Atlantic seaboard while a large portion of it was taken up in the Middle West, Canada and Europe. Growers this year are packing their dried prunes In boxes Instead of the sacks as formerly done. This tends to give them a better .appearance. The prunes this year are better than that of last year in quality, and this is more noticeable where great care has been taken of the trees. During the past few days the price of dried pears has gone from 10 cents to 11 and 12 cents per pound. Very little poultry has come Into the markets of the past few days, but as the Thanksgiving season Is ap proaching poultry and game will com mence to arrive into the local mar kets. Today a large shipment of turkeys were brought to this city from the country, and shipped to the Portland markets. The buyers of poultry of this city are paying 16 cents and 17 cents per pound, about the same as that of last year. The price of chickens is from 10 cents to 12 cents per pound. There Is a very little call for ducks or geese in the Oregon City markets. Apples have come steadily Into the markets this week, and some were of a poor quality, but those of the Northern Spy, Bell Flower, Kings and other varieties are finding a good de mand and are ranging In price' from $1.00 to $1.50 per box. Grapes are still in the markets, and some of the best late varieties are now in. N The local merchants are now get ting In the California oranges; the first shipment was received this week. The farmers all over the county have been, making the best of the pleasant weather, and many have fin ished their fall plowing and have their seeding all completed. In some sections the ground was almost too dry for the ploughing, but the rain of yesterday and of today will tend to moisten the soil enough so as to make ploughing easy. The light frosts of a few days did no damage to the fruit that is remaining on the trees, but has shortened the strawberry crop to some extent. Strawberries were sell ing in the local market today at 20 cents per box. In the Liberal section a great deal of wheat is being sown, as well as cheat. The potatoes are nearly all dug in this part of the county, and farmers here report a large yield. DANVILLE. 111., Nov. 12 In an in terview today Senator Ben Tillman, of South Carolina, declared that Presi dent ' Roosevelt will not accept a third term and that Speaker Cannon will be the Republican nominee. Westover, formerly of this city, shows how Kentucky Domocrats take their medicine: Wilson, Republican, Is elected gov ernor by 12,000 plurality and the en tire Republican ticket is elected. The tail came very near going with the hide, but by a vigorous effort on the election day the tail was saved. There is little comfort for Democrats In the old Commonwealth. It Is all over and the Republicans are doing the shouting. Democrats are glum and have nothing to say. Our magnificent majority has been fritteded away. It is needless now to say how or why. Louisville gave Wilson and the Re publican ticket nearly 8,000 majority. The whisky interest voted the Repub lican ticket as it was supposed that they would.
