. NE of the smartest modes of the season, showing the fash
ionable kimono sleeve, Is here Illustrated In a develop
ment of plaid taffeta, which Is brought out In some very
handsome colorings, and promises to be very popular for
waists of thl character. ' Two deep tucks at the shoulders
contribute to the front fulness. The back Is plain, except for
light gathers at the waistline. A dainty lingerie wulst or a
plain slip of linen, pongee, or China Bilk may be worn under
neath. Linen, madras, pique, taffeta, the rough pongees and
broadcloth are all suitable for reproduction. For 36 Inches
bust measure 1 yards of material 27 Inches wide will be
required.

The attractive costume for a young girl Is, exceptionally
graceful and becoming. TXe blouse waist shows the latest de
velopment In the popular over-blouse effects. It crosses In
front In surplice style and fastens with three large buttons.
A slight extension at the armhole gives the broad drooping
shoulder so essential to present styles. The seven-gored Bklrt
Is one of the prettiest models of the season. It Is made with
an Inverted box-pleat at each of the side Beams and In the
centre of the back( Machine stitching holds the pleats In
place to deep flounce depth, and allows the lower edge to flare
modlshly. Striped silk was used for the development, trimmed
with bias bands of the same material. J.lnen, gingham, voile
and pongee are all adaptable. The sixteen year size will re
quire 2 yards of 27-lnch material for the waist and 7' yards
for the skirt.

A pretty example of the popular over-blouse Is shown In
the model, made with front, back and sleeve In one piece, the
only seam being In the sleeve under the arm. The present
development was in loulsine silk, the edge Is bordered with
narrow lace Insertion. Any of the materials that drape nicely
are -appropriate, such as cashmere, voile, broadcloth, pongee
and taffeta. The wide sleeves are In kimono style and fall
, gracefully over 'the under-sleeve of net or other lingerie ma
terial. For 36-Inch bust measure 1J4 yards of 27-inch material
will be required.

The design for a skirtwalst costume Is not only very becom
ing, but practical for home-making. The blouse waist may be
of the same material as the skirt, or it may be made up of

sleeves may be in elbow or full length. The skirt is one of
the full graceful models In pleated style, and is in the fash- '
lonable round length. Striped novelty suiting was chosen for

material will be required for the waist, and 6V4 yards for the
