Josse'.yn, president of the Port land Railway, Light & Power Com pany, who has just returned from an Eastern trip, baa an Interview in a Portland paper. It Is apparent that the proposed new power station on the east side of Willamette Falls will not be constructed for two years at least. Mr. Josselyn Bays: "Soundings are being taken and sur veys made on the Estacada line for a second water power development on the Clackamas River, about two miles above the present water power sta tion at Cazadero, that will devolop 50,000 additional horsepower. This work Is being taken up at this time, so that two years hence, when the de mand Is at hand, we will be in a posi tion to meet it. In the meantime, work will be taken up Immediately to install two additional, units at the present water powor plant at Caza dero, which will develop 10,000 addi tional horsepower for use when re quired one year hence. "When these two additions to our water power facilities have been made, and the demands grow to war rant it, we shall then develop 40,000 additional horsepower on the Willam ette River at Oregon City, on the op posite side of the river from our pres ent power-house at that point. These three additions to our present water power plants will take care of the re quirements of Portland and vicinity for something over five years, after which, if the city grows and the de mand for electric energy increases, as we believe it will, we have two other water power projects within easy reach of Portland that will be (level oned as needed. "Contracts have been let for the construction of a new steel truss bridge over the Clackamas River on the Oregon City line to replace the present wooden structure, so that freight and passenger cars of any weight may be safely operated over it. Three miles of the Oregon City line were relaid this Summer with new heavy rails and rails are now on the way for relaying three additional miles, which when completed will put the Oregon City line in strictly first class condition for the handling of any class of traffic. "A new double-track main line will be constructed from the Inman-Poul-sen mill to Hawthorne avenue, so that passenger cars on the Oregon City, Cazadero and Oaks park lines will have free right of way without delays, such as have been occasioned by run ning as at present through the freight yards between those points, and will add still more to the efficient Bervice that has been rendered to. Oaks travel this Summer. "A new bridge is being constructed on the main line changed at Milwau kie, making an easier curve at that, point, which will be appreciated by our patrons on the Oregon City line. I "Arrangements are now under way to build large additions to the Pied mont carbarns, and also a large addi tion to the carbarn at Milwaukie. These aditions involve an expenditure of over $30,000, and the work will pro ceed as rapidly as possible until com- pletion. "Another matter in which street carpeople are Interested is the build ing of clubhouses, as promised by the late president of our company, II. W, Goode. His death delayed this work: and owing to the multitude of matters demanding my attention, was further I delayed. Orders will now do given to immediately comineuw v" "-"--tlon of a clubhouse at Milwaukie and one at the Piedmont barn, on the lines promised by Mr. Gooi Special Taxes for Roads. Residents of the country districts are looking ahead in the matter of road improvements and in two road districts this week meetings will be held for the purpose of voting a spe cial tax levy for road improvement. The people of the Garfield district held a road meeting Tuesday after noon, and at Viola a special meeting will take place next Saturday after noon at 1 o'clock. Notice for Liquor License.
