SHAD BATTERY AT FALLS.
Work Is Successful and 1,500,000 Eggs
Wilt Be Taken.
Superintendent Henry O'Malley of
the United States Bureau of Fisheries,
Is entirely satisfied over the showing
made at the shad battery that was
established at Willamette Falls last
week, under tho direction of George
H. Talbert. There has been 1,200,000
eggs taken and It Is probably that
1,500,000 will be received before the
operations cease, but not more than
this number will be taken on account
of the limited capacity of the battery.
Some of the Blind will be taken to
Skagit river and other Washington
points and the remainder placed In
the Willamette river. Work at the
battery Is very Interesting. The eggs
are placed In glans Jars and hatch in
about six duys, and are then trans
ferred to the glass aquarium, which
contains about 40 gallons of water.
They are then liberated.
