in the Arctic ocean. Air. Kelso touch
ed at many places of interest, everal
of which he spoke of in his lecture.

Wo were sorry to hear of tho stui
dei death last Tuesday evening of
Mrs. John Kruse. She has been ailing
for soino time but still her sudden
death came as a great shock to her
family and numerous friends, Sho
died on the same old place whore she
came as a bride so many years ago,
and from whose doors a largo family
of children have passed out, some to
the quiet cemetery and others worthi
ly to light the battle of life. She will
ho missed In more ways than one. Her
hand was alwayB open to the needy,
and her genial smllo has put now
courage Into the heart of many a de
spondent one, therefore she has not
lived In vain.
Mrs. C. Koellemeier Is very sick
with the grip and dropsy. Mrs. Fred
Koollenneler died of dropsy, Janunry
27th.

of his life. What with washouts, land
slides and the outs trying to get in he
leans a strenuous life.

utensils for sale at Amos Johnson's

Frank Scott has tho boss wagon of
this country. Frank Is a rustler.
Mr. Ramsey's sons are coming home
from Washington where they have
been at work for some time.
John liagby has been appointed
game warden. John Is a well-known
citizen, raised in the mountains with
tho game. No doubt but be will save
much game as he Is an expert on
tracks of any kind, game or men.
There Is plenty of hay for sale in
this country yet.

again after a week's absence, caused

A pleasant surprise party was given
Laura Purcell of Clackamas Heights
on Tuesday evening when several of
the high school students and other
friends went in to spend the evening
with her. All report having a delight
ful time. Miss Purcell teaches at Mo
lalla, hut came home the- first of the
week to attend the County Institute
In Oregon City.
The Park place school closed Tues
day for the remainder of the week,
while the teachers attended County
Institute. . .
The P. P. Debating club will give a
banquet Friday night in tho Asembly
hall to which all members of the club
and Alumni are cordially Invited.
Mrs. Natchen Is quite ill with the
grip. Dr. Strickland was called on
Monday evening.
Miss Cutter from Currlnsville is
visiting her aunt, Katie Wilson. She
closed her school In order to attend
'the County Institute.
Miss Mabel Kennedy closed her
school at Currinsville Tuesday after
noon and Is nttendlng tho Institute.
Old Miss Cummings Is very low at
her home on Clackamas Heights, with
no hope for her recovery.
George Hamilton has purchased one
hundred and twenty acres of lnad
two miles from Grants Pass and is
down there making arrangmeiits lor
the family to move In the near future.

Woodchuck day came with lots of
snow and sleet. The thermometer
registered 25 degrees and snow was
about five Inches deep. It all went off
Monday evening and now the excite

is here again visiting with his sister,

Our new blacksmith, Mr. Dorsey,
has moved into J. Pierce's house. J.
M. Glllett is papering the house this
week and making other changes.

Miss Edna Garde of Colton came in
