LOWER FARE
IS REQUESTED
Residents of Gladstone and
Farkplace Petition Rail
way Company.
Presideut H. W. Goods, of the
Oregon Water Power & Railway
Company, liqs assured a committee,
composed of Judge Diiuick, Harvey
Cross aod Judge Hayes, that he would
look into the matter of reducing the
fare on the electric line between this
city and Gladstone. It is probable
that ho will communicate with the
members of the committee at an
early date.
The people of Gladstone and Park
plaoe believe they are charged too
high a rate for tranportation. The
regular rate Ib 5 cents each way from
Oregon Oity but by purchasing a hook
of ticketb a reduction to 44 cents is
secured. The people want a farther
redaction and ask for a round trip
rate of five oeuts, making the fare 1
oents each way.
About two years ago the oompany
gave the residents of the suburban
towns of Gladstone and Parkplace a
rate or three cents each way from
Oregon Oity. This was very satis
factory, but one day a resident of this
city attempted to ride to Meldrum's
station on one of these speoial rate
tickets. The conductor balked and
the result was an encounter that
culminated in the arrest and fine of
the railway official.
The management of the company
exacted punishment from every res
ident of Parkplace and Gladstone for
this affair by with drawing the special
round trip rate and making the fare
4J cents.
Pain From a Burn Promptly Relieved by
Chamberlain's Pain Balm.
A littl 3 child of Michael Strauss, of
Vernon, Conn., was recently in' great
pain from a burn on the hand, and as
cold applications only increased the
inflammation, Mr. Strauss came to
Mr. James N. Nichols, a local mer
ahant, for something to stop the pain.
Mr. Michols says: "I advised lain to
use Chamberlain's Pain Balm, and
the first application drew out the in
flammation and gave immediate re
lief. 1 have used this liniment my
self and recommend it very often
for cuts, burns, strains and lame back,

DO IT TO-DAY!'?
"And to think that ten months ago I looked tiki
this 1 I owe it to German Syrup."
The time-worn injunction, "Never put
off 'til to-morrow what you can do to
day," is now generally presented in this
form : " Do it to-duy !" That is the terse
advice we want to give you about that
hacking cough or demoralizing cold with
which you have been struggling for sev
eral days, perhaps weeks. Take some
reliable remedy for it to-day and let
that remedy be Dr. Boschee's German
Syrup, which has been in use for over
thirty-five years. A few dose9 of it will
undoubtedly relieve your cough or cold,
and its continued use for a few days will
cure you completely. No matter how
deep-seated your cough, even if dread
consumption has attacked your lungs,
German Syrup will surely effect a cure
as it has done before in thousands of ap
parently hopeless cases of lung trouble
