WATER SUPPLY IS SCARCE Hops Show Improvement But Growers Expect Yields Below the Average. The week, like the two preceding oiioh, was warm and dry. T ese con ditions wore excellent for harvesting grtim and this work was pushed along with unusual rapidity. Full wheat and barley yields continue good, both in quantity and quality, but spring wheat is not coming up to expecta tions, especially in the Willamette valley, where rust .and the aphides wore so plentiful earlier in the sea son. The straw of spring wheat and oats was heavy and the heads, as a rulo, of average size, but the berry in many cases is shriveled, which ac counts for the shortage, Pasturago is very short in the val leys, bat it continues fairly good in the mountain ranges, and stock keeps in unusually good condition. All streams are falling and the water sup ply for irrigation is getting scarce. Sogar boots, field onions and early poaatoes are making good ad vancement but late I'Otutues are at a standstill and need rain badly. (Jorn is extra good. Hops show improvement and the lico have noarly all disappeared, but growers generally expect yields bolow the av erage, and also a return of lice with the advent of favorable weather for their propagation. Early apples are small and the yields are below the average Peaches aro boing marketed and the c-op is better than expected. Baker collected money due the Oregon City Planing Mills Company and appropriated the same to Mis own uko, the company lias brought suit in the circuit court to recover from linker the sums which it is claimed he obtained and refused to deliv r to tho plaintiff. Baker was lormerly tho ownor of tho Oregon City Planing Mill Company and sold out to W. and IS. Knppnnder last spring. Last May he purchased building mater ial from them amounting to $87.44 and they hiive received no part of this amount. The poultry show will be held under direction of Elmer Dixon, of Oregon City, as superintendent, and G. T. Hunt as secretary, in addition, Wash ington and California have appointed commissioners. Washington's man is H. H. Collier, of Tacoma, a well known breeder of flue poultry, while S. B. Kellam, of Los Angeles, is working in the inte-est of California. Commissioners Prank Wiggins and J. A. i'llcher are enthusiastic iu regard to the show, and declare that Cali fornia will make a better showing than either Washington or Oregon. The prizes offered to successful ex hibitors are on a scale which should encourage general participation. Those offered by the Exposition vary in value aooording to the number of e.ihibitors. In single classes, twelve entries make a full class and $5 is offered as the first prize, $3.50 for the second, $1.50 tor the third, and certificates for the ot.':er places. ' The pen prizes in a full class of ten entries aro as liberal as those offered by the St. Louis Fair, being $10 for the first prize, ti for the secoud, $4 for the third, $2.50 for the fourth, and very honorable, honor able and simple diplomas in the fifth, sixth and seventh places, lu all there are 96 classes, and there are as high as 40 sections to a class. Secretary Hunt has announced that tho Exposition wilt give $o0 to the county which fur nishes the largest exhibit and half that sum to the largest individual ex hibitor. Members of the county court Thurs day afternoon granted the petition of the United States lish commission to construct dams below tho olectrio bridge, near the mouth of the Clacka mas river.
