Tlie Welsh people of Heaver Creek
intend to celebrate tlie memory of St.
David, which will be held at the
I'irst Congregational Church Wed
nesday evening, March 1. The com
mittee has prepared a good prorgam
for the occasion. Hope that we will
see everybody tnrn out to spend a few
fours' time and to enjoy themselves.
The affair will commence at 7 :80 p.
m. Admission, 10 cents each. The
Welsh Junior Choir will render sev
eral of their selected songs under the
leadership of Prof. T. D. Jones, late
of Nebraska.
Literature and musical contests will
be held at the First Conrgegational
Church of Beaver Creek, Wednesday
eveing, March J. The following sub
ject will be in the contest: First, for
the best love letter in Welsh or Eng
lish, prize 50 cents; for the best essay
on the best method to spend our leis
ure hours, Welsh or English, prize 75
cents; poetry, four stanzas, "A
Righteous Wife," Welsh; 75 cents; for
the best recitation of the first chapter
of Hebrew, under IB years of age,
prize, 5t cents; best recitation to chil
dren under 12 years of nee, Welsh or

There"vorumany skaters enjoying a
tut or tine skating last week on
liloho's lake east of Canby. There
was a large amount of good no and it
seemed as 11 there were quite a few
skates that wero suddenly brought to
light that the owner had not used
for some time, but such opportunities
no not conio to uregonians often,
hence the lads make the most of it.
Many jwoplo are ill with tlie grip,
and Dr. Dttilinan is kept pretty busy
these cold days.
OSWEGO GRANGE.
Oswego Grange No. 175 hold its reg
ular meeting February 11, with an at
tendance of 87, aud eight visitors.
Regular business was transacted
and two candidates instructed in the
first aud second dergeos.

MOUNTAIN VIEW.
We had a little snow and a hard
breeze in this burg last week,
The thermometer registered 10 de
grees above zero on Saturday morning.
There is a great deal of sickness
here. Lagrippe is the prevailing dis
ease. Mrs. Geo. Ely is up again after an
attack of lagrippe. The children were
sick, too.
Mrs. Hall and Miss Norah Curran
are both on the sick list.
Mrs. Matohet is under the doctor's
care.
Charley Dickey is also on the sick
liet.
Deacon Andrews pud a few other
men are putting a new fence around
the church this week.
Tlie school children are having their
mid-year tests this week.

amusement for the past week.
Miss Douia McSherry was on the
sick list last week.

summoned, and the last we heard she
was doing nicely.
Ferris Mayfleld visited Oregon City
Friday.
Holston Lay attended Sunday school
on the 12th.
Joe Fellows was out sloigh riding
Monday.
Pete Davidson was in town Friday.
Mrs. G. Fellows is home again
much improved iu health.

Startling But True.
People the Jworld over were .'horri
fied on learning of the burning of a
Chicago theatre in which nearly six
hundred people lost . their lives, yet
more than live times this number or
over 8,000 people died from pneumonia
in Chicago during tho same year with
scarcely a passing notice. Every one
of those cases of pneumonia resulted
from a cold and could have been pre
vented by tho timely use of Chamber

Chas. Hines lest a valuable work
horse last week from chronio indiges
tion. Dr. Cramer, of Portland, was
summoned, but too late to save the an
imal's life.
Mrs. Slyter was called to Portland
last Thursday, her son, Charles, be
ing taken suddenly ill. Ho was im
proving very rapidly at last report.
Mrs. Newbury was called to Port
land Snuday on account of her daugh
ter, Kate, being very sick. They both
returned Monday evening. Pleurisy
seemed to be the ailment. We are
pleased to report her condition much
improved.
? Will Critescr was on the sick list
several days last week.
The thermometer pointed to 16 above
zero Saturday morning, and the boys
are making good use of the ice on the
mill pond. .
The New Era Mutual Telephone
Co. held a meeting Saturday afternoon
in theW. C. T. U. hall for the pur
pose of settling all bills against the
company, equalizing the cost of the
line to each member, which was 5.70
each. This amount pays for labor and
material of main line. Each member
pays for his phone and private line to
main line. Messrs. Chas. Baker and
J. L. Kruse, preisdent and secretary
of a telpehone company on the west
side of the river, were present at our
meeting for the purpose of getting
information for printing a telephone
directory.
The saw mill has been frozen up for
several days.
Dr. Ltish returned to Portland Tues
day. Joe Lolle is preparing to go into
the chicken business.

Geo. MoCormick came home from
Oregan City Monday evening, feeling
a little better than usual. After ;
watching the mill boys rafting logs

and took such good care of are dead.

Twenty-six men appeared on the
school grounds last Tuesday to build
the fence, clear the grounds, etc.

women assisted Mrs. A. K. Jones,
and a chicken dinner was served at
her home for the men. Much cau be
accomplished when all pull together.
The latest chicken food is "willow

Al Jones has a new wire fence in
front of his garden.
Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Jones, Mrs. J.
Anderson and Miss L. Gans spent
Sunday at the home of Mrs. R.
Schoonborn.
We don't blame Uncle H. for not
liking "red hair" but we art) sure he
likes "auburn hair. "
The Misses Anderson called on
Mrs. R. Bullard Sunday.
Mrs. I. E. Jones and family spent
Sunday in Mulino, the guests of F.
Kimmey and family.
' Yes, Liberal, Eldorado is anxious
for the telephone line. We'll do our
best to hurry it through.
Molalla Grange No. 40 met last Sat
urday with a fair attendance. Mrs
Lee and son took the third and fourth
degrees. One member was reinstated,
and four took the first and second de
grees. Chas. Daniels, of Mulino, is be
coming a writer of whom we can all
feel proud. His latest play, "Her
Bright Smile Haunts Me Still, will
probably be given at the "Bachelor's
Basket Social."
Miss Clara Schoenborn spent Sunday
with Miss Edna Irish, of Oarus.
Miss Bertha Spangler, who has been
staying at Liberal, is at home.
O. Smith is able to be around again.
Bayne Howard returned from the
coast last Sunday. He weirs "duck
feathers" for ornaments.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Spangler and
nieces, Eletha and Ola Jackson of
Maple Lane) spent Monday evening at
the home of Al Jones.

There was a little snow on the
ground Thursday morning but the
weather had been very good aud the
faithful farniors still proceed with
their work.
James Kitchiug and son have pur
chased a stump grubber and have been
doing a piece of work for Robert
Currin.
Miss Bertha Kitchig and Mr.
Andrew Shankland were, united
in marriage the 8th of February.
After their marriage they returned
home on the seven o'clock car Wed
nesday evening. They are making
their home at Mr. Shankland's at the
present time.
Mrs. Shankland is improving and
Mr. Shankland is still improving
slowly.
The Honorable Clyde Currin spent a
few of his vacation days in Portland
with his cousins.
r Mrs. Hitching went to Salem about
two weeks ago to visit with her par
ents and has not returned.
Mr. Hale was going near Currins
ville and left his horse standing aud
as it was cold the horse ran away and
broke the buggy top off.

ing logs to the Molalla river off of
the TruUinger hill. They will turn
out some fine lumber soon.

Dee Wright purchased a baud of
sheep for sueculation and now has
them on good pasture.
W. H. White will build a flue house
and barn this spring on his faim.

sickuess from some cause. Well, boys,
we are all daoks and want plenty of
