Court Robin Hood, No. 9, Foresters of America, met Tuesday night and elected officers, who will be installed the first Tuesday in January. All the officers of tho Court were eloctod except the office of Lecturer, and this olace will lie filled later. Court Robin Hood will meet every Tuesday in December. Installation will take place the first Saturday in January. Notice of Thanks. t i,,-., n,is onlv method of contess- Twelve thousand dollars, or as much as may be necessary of that amount, lias been appropriated by the city council for the completion of the South End road. The ordinance passed Wednesday night without a dis senting voice, and Councilman Shea lian, at one time a strong opponent to the construction of the road, stated in explanation of his vote, that he did not believe that it would cost anything like the sum named in tho ordinance, and for the further reason that tho road was so. near completion that it would be unreasonable to do anything else than order its Completion. Ordinances were passed levying a 4 mill tax for the general and muni cipal purposes and a 3 mill tax for the improvement of streets. C. D. Latourette appeared tor the Oregon, City & Suburban Railroad Company, and nsked that they be given an extension ot one year in which to complete the road. He offered $50 as a nominal consideration for the privilege and the time was extonded until Januay 1, 1900. The Lranchise for tliis road runs down Water Street to 12th and out 12th to the Southern Pacific railroad, end from there to 14th street, from 14th street to Wasington and out Washing ton to the Aboruethy road. MONEY FOR SOUTH END ROAD. Council Makes, Appropriation Eor Its Appropriation. Evangelistic Meetings. Social Evangelistic meetings are to begin at, the First Baptist church of this city on the coming Sabbath, De cember 11. Rev. H. Wise Jones who comes to assist Pastor Beaveu is a man who will command the respect of this community in every respect. He does not come as a professional evan gelist, but owing to his peculiar nat ural gifts in this line the Oregon Bap tist Convention has invited mm to this state to take up that, particular character of work, and from the first whisper that he might bo secured, some years ago, Kev. iieaven put in a request that ho should come to Oregon City as soon as he could. And now that he is coming it will be well for the people of this town to try and ar range their atlairs to attend. It will be a rare treat to all who come under the influence of his work. Begining Sunday morning next he will hold two services a dny, at the usual time on Suuday and of a week day at 2 in the afternoon and 7:30 at night. Every thing will be done to make the room comfortable and the services at tractive. Coughing Spell Causes Death "Harry Dick well, aged 25 years, choked to death early yestorday morning at his home, in the presence of his wife and child. He contracted a slight cold a few days ago and paid but little attention to it. Yesterday morniug ho was seized with a fit -of coughing which continued for some time. His wife sheut for a physician but before he . could arrived, another coughing spell came on, and Duck well died from suffocation. - St. Louis Globe Democrat, December 1st, 1901." M McGeehan at tended the Presbytery, and Judge T. F. Cowing and J. M. Warnock were there as representatives of the church.
