OREGON CITY COURIER, FRIDAY, OCT. 21 1904 TWO BULLETS PAST HIS HEAD Unknown Man Fires Two Shots From Rifle. SCARES LAMBERT BEARD Miscreant Waits Until Boy Passes and Then Shoots Mind Probably Is Lnbalanccd. While Lambert, the 12-year-old son of WUiam Beard, was on his way home from school Monday afternoon, he bQcame the victim of an incident that is nothing short of an outrage Mr. Beard's home is on the Molalla road, two miles from town. The young man attends the high school in the Barclay building and walks home, arriving there about dark. Monday 'ven'niz lie passed a man about half 'vay between his home and Josi's fnrm. He gave a fleeting glance at the man's face, but only remembers ! hat he did not know the man, and can Rive no description of him, as his attention was attracted to the rifle tlmt the man carried. The boy is a great lover of guns, and thought it strange tliar -the man should carry a rifle, when in this time of the season for hunting pheasants, hunters nearly always have shot guns The unknown man passed him without a word, and the boy proceeded on toward his home, and had nearly ' readied his gate, when he heard the report of a gun, and a bullet whizzed past nis neati, causing mm to wince, and suddenly there was another gun shot, and another bullet passed him. He got into the house with all the speed of which he is capable, and reported the matter to his parents. The man's object in firing the shots is puzzling. He may have been try ing to frighten the boy, in which event he may be put down as mentally unbalanced, :ind if Mr. Beard should ascertain iio the man is, he will make it wnr:n for him. avert His Life.
