MARKET BEPOR1.
Corrected to April 28 r 190i. j
FRESH SALMON IS HIGHER.
The receipts of Bataion in this mirks
show another advance of lc a pound on
both chinooks and steelheds on account
of a scarcity. There is not near enongb
fish coming now to supply the demama
and even Sacramento is unable to filti
the outBide orders. FreBh cliinook
now quoted at 10c a pound and tteeV
heads at 9c. No. other changes warn
made in the fish markets.
BUTTER BTILL VERY WEAK.
Despite the assurances of the larger
creamery men that they are not cutting
their quotations off their printed lists,
retailers coutinue to receive telephone)
messages and circulara telling of lower
prices for them exclusively. Aa nearly
every handler of bntter receives the
same cuts, the exclusive part of the bus-
inees cannot be Been by them. Today
the market has a dragging tendency
and prices are demoralized with no legi
timate offers being refused.
MORE EGGS ARB COMING.
The high prices which have lately i
been offered out in the country for egg :
seems to be drawing at last, for the re-
ceipts of Btocks this morning were larg- '
er than any previous day during the
last montn. ihe demand as yet is not '
great in the city, and aa this market is '
about aC too nigti for the northern j
market, larger receipts would have a
bad tiled. I'rices show no change to- 1
day.
POULTRY MOVES AT HIGH PRICE.
Although the receipts of poultiy wer
slightly larger today, there wan a small
improvement in the price. This was
brought about by the almost entire die- ,
appearance of stocks from the market. ,
With larger receipts usual quotations
will rule.
THE SLUMP IN POTATOES.
Very heavy receipts of potatoes in the
San Francisco market and a consequent:
lowering of prices there has caused a drop
of about 15c a hundred, in the quota-
this market. Fancy stocks, of which
there is a very little lelt, are quoted lust,
aa strong as the former figures,.
SUGAR 18 VERY FIRM.
The advance of 10c a hundred in the
quotations on sngar which was exclu
sively mentioned in the Journal yester
day, was brought about by the placing
of heavy orders for suaar by the larger
fruit cannera of the country. Jobbers
are expecting further advances in thin
market.
