Tcrtlaud", Marcb 24 Potato market is at riii:Mri!t to some dealern, while others aver that that the qoutationB are palp ably weak. Dealers who deBire(to pur chase from speculators say that tup prices muBt be paid. The San Fran cisco market has been kept up, these commission men say, in order to work larne amounts of "Rivers" in the Bay City. As a result of this action, large amounts of potatoes have been shipped to Frisco from distant points, and the prices fell of their own weight, thus causing a loss to thoBe who had paid good prices in the winter. Whether potatoes will "firm up" again no dealer caruB to express an opinion. Home liirk there are no more potatoes in Ore gon now than will be needed at homo. THIS EGG SITUATION. One cur of California vegetables reached this city this morning' and an other one is on the way, two days over due. The demand is nood for California cabbnga, cauliflower, green peas, beans, celery, lettuce, asparagus, etc. A car- luad does not !a t long in Portland these days, as the Oregon-grown vegetable Btock has long since been worked off. and with the exception of turnips, beets, carrots and other root crops, none will appear until June. PLENTY OF FRESH MEATS. Dressed beef, veal, mutton and pork are in good supply, considering the sea son, which is usually noted for its scar city. Small hogs are a little scarce, but the larger ones do not sell to readily, as lard is cheap and big carcases are not fit for retailing at the block. , SUGAR MAY GO UP. Sugar is very firm, owing to the ap: preach of the fruit canning season, and many grocers think now is a good time to stock up.
