Eight months ago I was so ill that I was compelled to lie or sit down nearly all the time. My stomach was so weak and upset that I could keep nothing on it and I vomited frequently. I could not urinate without great pain and I coughed so much that my throat and lungs were-raw and sore. The doctors pro nounced it Bright '8 disease and others said it was consumption. It mattered little to me what they called it and I had no de sire to live. A sister visited me from St. Louis and asked me if I hat" -r tried Wine of Cardiii. I tola I had not and she bought a - '!e. Portland Market. BIG PRICE FOR TURKEYS The highest price paid, for dressed turkeys this season was received by one of the large wholesale grocers this morn ing. The transaction consisted of about 75 pounds of dressed birds and the price paid was 25 cents a pound. The stocks were in excellent condition and as the market was all but bare the arrivals were eagerly picke I up. Later in the day some additional turkey shipments came in and received prices ranging from 22 1-2 cents to 25 cents a pound for the dressed stocks. There will be a fair de mand for turkeys from now on for about a week but it is not thought that the market will stand very heavy receipts at present prices. r ALL LOVELY IN POULTRY. Everything is lovely in the poultry market with possibly the exception of the receipts. The prices are very good and the demand is excellent in all lines, ducks and geese included. Just now the market will stand quite liberal arrivals but too heavy receipts would have the effect of putting the market back where it was a week ago at k ed-rock. No changes are noted in poultry prices to day. EGOS STIFFENING UP. The egg market is stiffening up with a continuance of the cold weather as the principal cause. The receipts either to day or late yesterday were not over-plentiful and the demand is beginning to show an improvement, The future of the egg market depends altogether on the weather conditions. Thirty.cents is the ruling price for Oregon fresh stocks today. - PACKAGE COFFEES HIGHER. The coffee market shows a steady advance in price here on account 0' the geueral higher prices in the New York market. The manufacturers of Arbuckle this morning announced an advance of 1-2 cent a pound to take effect at once. Other grades of package coffees show no change SWEET POTATOES ARE HIGHER. Th 3 weather conditions seem to be re sponsible for most of the changes in the local markets today. This morning two cars of sweet potatoes arrived on the street and were quoted at higher prices All the sweets arriving hereafter will be of the storage variety as practically all of the stocks in California have been taken from the ground and put mcellers as a preventive againBt frosts. SMELTS ARB CHEAPER. The receipts of Columbia river smelt are showing somewhat of an improve mentand quotations have taken another drop. The recipts of salmon from the Columbia river continue small. But lew Chinooks are arriving and they are quickly picked up at 25 cents a pound. The fish market is showing a beltei tone. Other prices show no change. GOOD DEMAND FOR MEATS. There is an excellent demand now ruling for all kinds of fresh meats on Front street. The receiots of late have been quite Bmall and both hogs and veal Qnd a ready call at prevailing lists. A few spring lambs are arriving but there are not enough to form a quotation. BUTTER, EGGS AND POULTRY. The poor patient, and the 'rich patient, too, can do much better at bome by proper attention to tood diges tion, and a regular use of German Svrup Free expectoration in the morning ii made certain by German Syrup, so is a good night's rest and the absence of that weakening coughing and debilitating night sweat. Restless night and the ex haustion due to coughing, the greatest danger and dread of the consumptive, can be prevented or stopped by taking German Syrup liberally and regularly, Should you be able to go to a warmer clime, you will find that of the thousands of consumptive there, the few who are benefited and regain strength are those who use Uerman Syrup.
