DIANA HOL00MB, Kxacutrix aiaieretaid. .Dated November 27th, A. D. 1M. MOLULA. Another Christmas has come and gone with lees-noise and excitement at Mo la 11a ot any OtirUtmas in the past 20 years. Everyone seemed to be taking Christmas dinner either at home or at Bome neighbor. The marque ball on Christmas Eve was a decided success. Home of the toughs got too much tangle foot and raised some disturbance aside from that very thing seemed to be quiet and peace able some 70 odd numbers were iold. The shooting match was a success and was well attended. Ike (jipson did some good shooting with his new Winchester in the forenoon. When he returned after dinner he forgot to bring bis gun and missed getting some more turkeys. A partv of iminers started this u.orn ng for the Ogle Oreek mines to work un til at least the 1st of March. The sad news was recently received of the death of C. D. Harless, son of John Harlegs. He was raised here but went to Eastern Washington a few years ago, where he was married and went to farm ing. He was taken seriouslylill and was 8ePt l H18 hospital at AValla Walla where he lingered a few days, and was called upon to answer tr-e roll call and pay the last debt that Nature can exact from us poor erring mortals. We are informed 'that Grandma Ogle, wife of Howard Ogle, is dangerously ill and it is feared she will not recover. Howard Ogle was the first m in to dis cover gold on OgleCreek, nearly 40 years ago. At that time quartz mining was but little known and not finding placer mines that be considered would pay he gave up prospecting. Mi. Ogle once told your correspondent that once many years ago he in (company of one or two others werein the mountains while there they came in contact with a dense fog they became bewildered and lost and while wandering around they found some very rich gold bearing rock. When later in the day the fog lifted and they found themselves directly east of our lit tle town the parties made several efforts to relocate the place where they found the rich rocit but they never succeed. Mr. Ogle as well as the other men that were with him were known to be truth ful men and' there is no doubt but what there are mineral deposits ia the Mo lulla country that is just as rich, if not richer, in gold than what has been dis covered in the Ogle Creek country. We only had a few days' vacation in our school this season. We usually have a week or ten days' vacation. MissMattie Leavitt is at home visit ing her Father during tbe bolidavs. She is teaching at .Kelso, Wash., whete she taught last season. NEEDY. Xmaa is over and Santa Clauie was generous to us all. Miss Alice Bitter has just completed a successful three- month term oi school la tbe Mund rf district near Can by. She is spending ber holiday vacation of two weeks at bome after which she will be gin another term in the same district. Earnest and Fred Stuwe are expected to arrive today to spend a few weeks at uome. iney are working in eastern Oregon and it has been nearly a year and a bait since they have visited their old home. John Gabler went to Hubbard last Sunday on his wheel. School has closed for the Xmas holi days, afte which there will began an other three-month term. . Rev. Mack, of Macksburg, preached an able sermon in our school house on Xmas day. Rev. Mack is a Lutheran of much abilitv as a pulpit speaker. Howard Brownell, of Oregon City, will deliver an address here on Year's Day at tbe school house. Prof Andy Thompson who has pleted bis course in the Stanford New com' Uni. versity and is at present teaching school near Pendleton, Oregon, is spending his holiday vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm Thomas. J. D, Ritter intends taking a busi ness trip to Salem and Dallas during the coming week. Carl Hilton had another shooting match here last Wednesday. Granue held its regular meeting last Saturday. There was a good attend' ance, considering it Deing tue uay alter Christmas. Bros. Cochran of Molalla Grange and Shrock of Woodurn Grange called on us and gave us pleasant en couragement in our work. Geo. Kinzer has been on the sick list for some time but is slowly improving. A number of brother Oddfellows went to his home last Saturday and kindly waited on him, making wood for winter use, etc. This is true fraternity H. Grimm, of Macksburg, spent a few days last week with lienry Kummer. While here, he made a sale of 160 acres of his mountain ranch to Grandpa Kum mer at $3 an acre. Uncle Henry Wolfer is digging his potatoes this week. Clarence Miller and Julius Spagle went to Hubbard to spend Christinas night. There were two dances in our little burg this vear, one on Xmas eve the nthnron Xmas night. The one given by Mr. Thompson, a masquerade, the other in the Oddfellows' hall, by some brothers. The Oddfellow boys had their dance announced or at least it was known for over a month that some of the boys would give a dance on Xmas night. Mr. Thompson announced his dance only two weeks ago, certainly knowing tiiat the other boys were goiug to give a dance. It doesn't look very respectiui toward the other boys and almost iuo s like spite work on the part of Thompson We hope the latter assumption Is un true, for it is unmanly to say me leaBi for grown up mento.indulge in ("little" thing that the average boy of today would be ashamed of. The leiulUf a ennran was that neither dance was as well attended as it otherwise would nave been. But the Oudfellow boys did by far the best, of course There was other datces in neighboring places that de tracted somewhat from tne numbers present. Tbe masquerade, as such was a failure and should never have been given. Whether given in good faith or not, It will reflect discredit upon the one who gave it. Spit work, or any thing that resemble it, never pays, but will eventually unuermine moae wno indulge in it. CBEEK. Adam Herrmann, a rjrominent young school teacher, of Mt Angel, is spending tbe holidays with tiia parents. Jack Shannon, returned from the Klondike country, after an absence of seven years. Milton Price, of Oregon City, ia visit ing at tbe home of Dod Hughes. Valentine Boblander who was under the doctor's care in Oregon City, return ed home Saturday and is much improv ed. Mrs. Wilson and son, Willie, are visit" mg with ber parents, Mr. ana airs, Daniels- Some of our folks attended tbe dance at Clarlr" Thursday night. The Christmas exercises were held at tbe German Congregational church, last Thursday evening the church was crowded and the presents were many and beautiful. - Rev. Bruce, of Springwater, preaches at the Piesbyterian church, every two weeks at two o'clock. Miss Jessie Blanck our school teacher, returned to her home in Portland, to spend a week vacation with her par ents. Henry Hughes and Co. was baling hay for Mr. Herrmann, last Saturday. Wild Robb.
