IV; " H Am " ' - i 1 Jaf - DR. M. C. STRICKLAND Dr. M. C. Strickland was born in the "Old Dominion" thirty-seven years ago. He comes from one of the "First families of Virginia", his grand father' having served with honor In the war of the Revo lution. The doctor was educated at the best colleges in the East and has the dis tinction of carrying a diploma from thirteen branches or schools of medicine. He re ceived his preliminary education from the University of North Carolina. He has two brothers who are well known and active practitioners in the state of his nativity. Dr. Strickland came to Clacka mas county eight years ago. He has twice been elected coroner of the county. He is an old-fashion Southern Democrat and was one of Bryan's strongest supporters in 1896 and I900. The d'.ctor is to busy a man to have any particular political aspirations, However he would make a most excellent mayor and being a democrat would not detract any from his other good qualities. The doctor is happily married, has an ele gant home on the Seventh street hill and a lovely family. ' 1 Big and fat, jolly and good looldng, O. D. Eby is a friend to "tye to." He Is a native Oregon ian and is one of our y5ung generation of Clackamas county boys. He was born in Linn county in 1872 and is only a little to rise of 3O years old. Mr. Eby came to this county In 1893 and for several years he clerked fortheRdbbinsatMoIalla. He was elected Justice of the Peace in his home district by a phenominal majority. He served later as deputy county dark. After going out of office he read law in the law office of Col. Robert A. Miller and has recently been admitted to the bar. Ht is a bright splendid youngfellow with a big future before him. He is married, has a lovely home and family, and is in all re- , 1 'f - 1 O. D. EBY . spects and ideal citizen. He would make a good Mayor of Oregon City and he would make somebody do some running If he were nominated or prevailed upon to run. Mr. Eby is a Democrat who had rather see his party win than win himself. If we had a few more like him we would be do ing some business In Oregon City. SUCVTugTh;n & Gross i iu.vt,i in', J " " '-ri? 1 i h The COURIER presents to Its readers this week the famillier faces of a bunch of good fellows who live In Oregon City, They all happen to be Democrats, and any one of them would make a fine mayor for the beautiful little city of Oregon City, if they would accept the position and were elected. In fact these men are good enough fo any kind of a position of honor or trust. These art a few of the good Democrats of this city, only a few. The fact of the matter is that Oregon City is alive with good Democrats. There is fine material here out of whll to make senators, ounty judges, sheriffs, or anything where it takes character and manhood to win. J. J. Cooke. Who is it that does not hardware man and the politician. For years he has lived in Oregon City and Clacka mas county. For four years he was sheriff of -the county, being elected, on the Citi zens ticket in 1900 by a majority of more than 1,200 votes. He is a very popular citizen, especially with the common folks. Mr, Cooke is not only a native son of Oregon, but a native 6f Clackamas county. He was born in this county in 1859, was educated, grew to manhood, went into business and has always been a citizen of the -. " . - ' , .- -v . tygix- : (:.-.- 4 . V , v, i, ... He owns a nice home on the hill, several houses and lots, and has a fine business both as a real estate dea'er and as a partner with Wilson in the hardware business. Mr. Cooke is an ambitious fellow, and will no doubt be heard from again in politics. He was a candidate for miyor against G. B. Dimick last December, always insisted that he had no fair show in was buried on the day of the election, and Mr. Cooke is a Democrat and will be in the cause in the future.
