Charlie Dickey drove to Canby last Satnrday evening with a load of of Ar tisans to visit the assembly at that place.' Born, Aug. 7, to the wife of Carl Ray mond, a son. F. A. Ely is the proud possessor of a fine colt two days old. Going to the mountains for huckle berries is the main topic here. There seems to he quile a good deal of sickness here this wee. Helen Ely went down to the doctor Tuesday and is still getting worse. Mrs. Lock and children are on the eick list. Dr. Carll is in attendance. Mrs. Frank Albright's mother, Grand ma Fuller, of ;Jefferson, is 'visiting here this week. Miss Pear Curran epent'last Saturday and Sunday camping at Nye Creek near Newport. That was her first trip to the Ocean and she thought it grand. Mrs. Moran is going out to Salmon River this woek and will visit with her daughter, Mrs. Grace Ely, and family. Mr. MoGeehan has bought a horse and buggy, Johnny Duffy was shaking hands with friends in this burg Tuesday. Oar mail carrier, Mr. Duffv, is danger ously ill at the St. Vincent hospital in Portland, Mrs. Lottie Fisher, nee Bennttt, was visiting in this burg Wednesday. F. M. Darline will spend the ' latter part of this week up near Mount Hood. Thursday of last week was a gala day for the children of Mountain View Sun day school. The occasion was a basket picnic in Holmes' park. After dinner remarks were made by Kev. J W. Craig, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks, Mr. Mack, Mrs. Moran and others. Ice cream and cake was then served. Afterwards came the various races and last, but not least came the pie race, w Inch created the most merriment of all to Bee boys eat pie with their hands tied behind them. Grandma Kays and Grandma Gray were among the merry party. j Salina. Sandy. As nothing is seen in the columns of the Courier of the t,reat Sandy country ire endeavor to send a few lines. 8andy lays claim now of being the largest lumber producing section ol Clackamas county. It has 10 saw mills within Smiles of the surrounding country and daily saws thousands of feet of lum ber. Clem Bartch new mill just started np, and will saw lumber for Portland market only. The Portland road from Sandy we6t for five miles is on both sides a bee.-hive of industry, clearing slashing and build ing of fences and houses. James Fa'litig is building a story and a half bouse, c st $1001). G Jonrud is completing a fine resid ence. Nels Nelson lias under way a bouse that will cost 2Q00. It will be one ol the finest in the country. Max Kligel a young man is erecting a $1000 house on his farm. W. Bankers has bis house completed. It is a modern and up-to-date residence costing eeveral thousand dollars. Johnson Brothers are making great improvements.ia fine residence and a big barn is being built. Carpenters were never so busy before, and the mill men are complaiuing for the shortage of hands. It is reported that the falls here have been purchased by an Electric Co., who will build a station here. Sandy is 5 miles from the railroad and has daily stage. An effort is now being made to induce the'O V. P. R. R. to construct a branch line to Sandy. The ever increasing business of this countiy demands railroad connection as iliolumbar business is a great industry here and also is noted for a large dairy producing country besides the farmers products . The travel to the mountains is very large this season. 75 tents are bing pitched among the cool camping places at Salmon and Welsh canyon.' cAHTonijaL.
