Great Prospects for Rich Gold Mines. The Ogle Creek mining country is just at the present time the mecca for hun dreds of Clackamas county people. The pnblistied reports of a rich strike in the neighborhood of Ogle Creek has not been without its effects. Last Saturday a partv of twenty left for the new fields from Molaila. Another party left from Oregon City the same day. The pur pose of all was the same to file ou min eral claims. The parties who went from Oregon City were, Charles W. Kelly, Linn E. Jones,' John Huerrh and Frank Welsh. Saturday Joe Harless brought in from Ogle Creek 300 pounds of specimens of ore. While not ai rich as the ors al ready on exhibition by the Fairclough boys, it is yet r'ch enough to attract manv people to the new fields. Harless owns an interest in the ueiv mines. He is sure that they w ill prove very valua ble, and believes that the main ledgs has finally been struck. He says that only two men are at the present time engaged in working the mines. They are paid the sum of $2 per day and board. It is not improbable that a larger crew will he put to work shortly. The location of the Ogle Creek mines is more than fifty miles from Oregon City, just over the line in Marion coun ty. One can drive a good part of the way and after he has reached the foot hills can take pack horses and traverse the remainder of the distance without much effort. The journey consumes about two days. Next Saturday a crowd of Oregon City and Molaila people will start for the new fields. They will be accompanied by John Fairclough, of this place, and Joe Harless, of Molaila. If there is gold in the mountains in this section of the country in paying quantities it will un doubtedly be discovered before the enow flies. , Prospecting has been going on in the Ogle Creek country for the past thirty years, and traceB of gold have frequently 'been found, but the late strike of gold is the onl" one that has ever been made that reallo amounts to a great deal, While the results of the recent fii.d so far have amounted to little, save to call the attention of the world to that sec tion, there seems a strong probabilily that future developmeuts will amount to a great deal and may open tip a great gold field that will cause any hitherto discovered in this section of the country to pale into insignificance. JONES SPECIALISTS Frater nalism As Expounded by Lord Brownell at Highland. Join the Maccabees and Vote the Republi can Ticket" His Motto. If there is anything that Lord Brown ell ean do well ;t is to make a speech . lie is by lone odds the smoothest talker in Ciaukamas county". He bas the repu tation of saying more and meaning less than any politician or lawyer on the banks of the Willamette. Lord Brownell is not only a good speaker, but he is a good Republican, if there ever was a good Republican. He believes in his party and he believes in mmseit as tne highest and best exponent of that pa?ty. tie nas reduced tne science oi running for offir-n to a mathematical conclusion This is only by way prelude. Lord Bruwuotl is not a bad lellow but will inbrace an opportunity. A week ago on last Saturday Lord Brownell was invited with a number of other gentlemen to Highland to attend the "Blow out" of the K. O. T. M. pic nic at that point. , The Maccabaes are very Btrong in tliaf'neck of the woods." They had planned a big day. A thous and people were on hand, mere was a band and music Boated out upon the am bient at:ifo?phere. There were baskets with edibles without number or name. In fact the fat ot the land was cooked and awaiting the hungry K. O. T. M.'e and their friends. The day wore on and Lord Brownell's speech kept a-growing. Politics is tabooed in the Maccabee lodgrt. They will nU allow a brother to talk to ano' her brother about, his political con victions in the lodge room. In fact they are all members ot one big fine family. They have no creed or faith. The time at last came for Lord Brown ell to speak. He was introduced as the orator faora Oreg .n City who knew more about brotherly love and benevolence than any other man who lives in these digjjins." He immediately went to work. Now mind you, Lord Brownell if a good speaker. He can twist the Queeu'u English to suit his own pecu liar lancy. II can take nights in the air and place his hands around the ctara. VV ell, he told the brethren all about brotherly love, all about how they should dwell together in one great body woi king lor the upbuilding ot the race, how the father should strengthen , the son and how the son' Bhonld be the shield and staff of the old man in his de clining years. How the home was pro tected by Ihe principles inbulcated by the Maccabees. In fact his speech was just about as good aa it could be and it he had "quit" when the quitting time came this article would not have been written. After making his peroration along the Maccabee line he branched off eotoppeak.i He took a side trail aud begen on a new tack. lo tue amazement ot the benevolent audience who was in his front and who had come out lor tbe sole purpose of hearing the doctrines of frater nalism expounded, the (Senator turned loose one of his old campaign speeches. in my judgment, "says Lord Brown ell, "the order of Maccabees is the great est benevolent organization this world has yet seen the Republican party alone accepted, I remember that 1 was out here to see you people about a year ago when I was a candidate for senator and I advised you to vote for me, and quite good number of you did not doit and you made the mistake of your life by not doing it. I have made you the best senator you have ever had, and I want to tell you now in good, plain, speakable English that I will be a can didate again and I shall expect the sup port of this locality. I tell you the Re publican party has given to you people more prosperity than you ever have had before in all your lives. It is responsi ble for the blessings and comforts of life vou enjoy, and next year we are going to re-elect the greatest man for Pre l- dent of these United States who has been birn since the days of Adam. Ladies and gentlemen, I thank you." The Macccbees dispersed and went to their several hon.es a little uncertain as to whether they had been at an innocent Maccabee picnic or at at old-fashioned Republican-Hrownell rabble rouser campaign meeting. Of course Lord Brownell forgot himself that was all. But the aftermath of the matter is that there are some pretty hot Maccabees in the neighborhood of Highland. Lord Brownell ia a good deal like the F readier who said after taking his text, preach from my text and the longer I preach the farther I get from ft. It is "A long cry," from Fraternal ism and Brotherly love as taught by the Macca bees and Republ.cans of the Brownell pattern. Announcement. It is said that it was almost imdossib e to cause him to release his grip upon the root of the stump which he had seized. Every effort was made to revive him but to no avail. The father returning from his trip to .the country found the corpse of the son rnd took him home in his buggy, wrappal in a shawl. The mother hud not baen nitifitid of the accident and when the lifeless body was brought into the hiuse she fainted away. The boy was an exceptionally bright and precocious boy . He was a manly little fellow, the apple of his father's eye, the darling of his mother's heart. Every father and every who have a boy can give them their hand and consolation. That is all. Big Mill Purchased Portland Flouring Mill Com pany Buys Ml at Everett. Dally Output of 9,600 Barrels of Flour by the Company. The Portland Flouring Mills Company laBt Saturday purchased the entire plaut stock good will and 'fixtures of the Ever ett Roller Mills of Everett, Washington. This mill, which was built about two years ago, is said to be cne of the finest on the coastand has a daily output of 850 barrels, Theneowners will im mediately increase it to 2,000 barrels per day. The new addition gives the com. pany a tital of 15 mills in Oregon and Washington, with a daily capacity of neatly 10,000 barrels of flour. It is stat ed that it requires 43,000 bushels of wheat per day to keep them all muning at their usual capacity, and a single week's output would make the large cargo of flour ever floated The Everett Mill with its nresent. capacity is third on the list in size and I its numerical p isitiou will not be chang. i ed when its capacit is enlarged. The i f ortland mill is still at the head of the system, with a capacity of 2,500 barrels, the Tacoma mill coming next wi'h 2,200 barrels.
