Frank Gray, a well known hunter of this section, had a desperate encounter Nfithabuge bear a few days ago, but came off victorious. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Mazingo were visiting relatives in at the capitol one dy last week. The measles have paid our burg a visit with a number of victims. B. Wade and son finished their con tract of 140 cords of wood Tuesday last. Freeman Thomas, a five-year old boy of this sectiion, has invented a mouse trap that works to perfection. Uornsuuh, of Cams, was here Sun ay visiting hi brother and talking politics, George Kirbyion, who is working in a logging camp on the Columbia, came home last week on account of being hurt by a large limb striking him on the Shoulder. He will go back this week. Highland is still on the boom. Grandpa Poat is very low. Jesse Mayfield, of Crescent, was vis iting relatives at Highland Inst Sunday. Mrs, Lizzie Millor, of Maple Lane, is in our burg again. Ed Nelson and wife have left us. Those present at the donation birth day party were Mrs. Gard, of Clarkes, and Mis. Richard Miller, of Highland. Fred North has returned from Buiioh GraHS, where he intends to make his future home. Charlie Welch and John Parish have gone to Eastern Oregon looking for a place suitable for their future home. Thai's right, John, stay with l'a. Mrs. Gard is improving since she has been under the care of Dr. Strickland, We think from the appearance of things that Kli Fellows has his coyote traps set on the west side of Oregon City. The ground is in good shape this spring, If we don't have good cropB this year it wont be because the grain was not put in right. Some of the fall wheat Is thin on ac count of the cold weather, but will be better headed and the grain will be larger. Harry Card sold some cattle to Mr. Bethke last week and delivo:od thorn Friday. Goo. Rogers bought a new hat the other day his old one got too small for him, lor they have a new boy at his House. Some of the kids in this neighborhood hi'vo the chicken pox and the rest want it and are mad because there is not enough to go around. The hop-yards are about ready for the plow . Mis. Gene Cummins is going to the Yakuina to look lor a homestead, he says no more stumps and rocks for him, but in about a year they will all come back here for a drink. a. very pleasant surprise party was giving in honor of our school teacher, Miss Minnie Grace at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rineo Wednesday night the 26th, and a splendid time was had by all who were there. Those present were ; Mr. ana mrs. Kingo, Misses mary Mar shall, Gusta Marshall. Julia Miller. Essie Gard, Minnie Grace, Anna Klein- smith, and Stella Larkins, Messrs Ken Marhall, Will Marshall, John and Jas Fisher, Win and George Miller, Ed Hettman and Vernon Larkins. The evening was spent in playing games and songs. After a delicious lunch they all aeparteu lor their home. . L. New Era. Charles Bowman has anew up-to-date watch. The Misses Kiles, of Milwaukie, are visiting Mrs. 'J. not tin an this week. Mrs. A. Bremer returned TueBdav from Portland, where she had been visit ing her daughter, Mrs. Boberg. Mrs. Mead and Mrs. Beif were shop ping in Portland Saturday. Warner Grange will give a masiiuer ade ball in their hall in the near future. Charles Foster is putting a fine pick et fence in front of his place. Mrs. L. A. R. Haynea moved out of the Wittenberg house Tuesday. Mr, Mead will occupy the house vacated by Mrs. naynes. Jacob Crader died at the home of bis daughter, Mrs. Fredrich last Wednes day, and was buried at Canby on Fn day. He leaves two daughters and three sons to mourn his departure Mrs, J. At Warner Grange, on Saturday, a resolution in favor of submitting the $500,000 appropriation to the Lewis & Clark Exposition to referendum vote, was voted do tin. As a similar resolu tion suffered the same fate in Milwau kie Grange, it seems evident that the farmers are willing to bear their share of the expense of the great show. Bv unanimous resolution the grange expressed itself in favor of labor unions. In order to raise funds to pay the $225 borrowed for one year in January, a reso lution was passed that the members be assessed one dollar each. VVith the Bame object in view, a masquerade bal will be given in th Q latter part of this month. Wilson against the Southern Pacific Railroad Co. for $25,000 will be retired at the April term of the Circuit court. It will be remembered that Mr. Wilson was kicked off of a train on the S. P. R. R some time ago and suffered severe hurts there from. He asks the above amount of damages. The lawyers for the plaintiff are Dim- ick, Eastbam and Montague and for the defendant Hon. George C.
