Editor of Courier The taxpayers of
Clackamas county shoull thank you
very much for showing up the methods
used by political fed ring boosters to
reap wealth out of their fellowman's
misfortune. It's time a man with the

Keller, G. W. Burdieb and mvself are
ownerB of donation land claims which
we wanted divided in accordance with
the deeds which we hold. We em
ployed the county surveyor and his dep
uty. Mr. jcnBon waB Bern. 10 uo m
work. Alter estamisning one corner, ue
demanded that all trees should be cut
down so that he could run a line due
north, regardless of government survey,
which was plainly marked by marks on
the trees, tlazin, etc. We cut four
trees, one nearly five feet in diameter,
which had a side blaze on it. lie said
that he could not run a straight line by
tbe novernment survey, which was
marked as plain as anything.
There is a creat deal oi vaiuauie urn
ber on a part of the land, and at places
on the lice it is very thick. To have
cut the trees would have destroyed a
irreat deal of this valuable timber, and
have .taken many days 01 unnecessary
labor, irivina the Biirvevor a lorn lob at
five dollan a day, which was so unjust
that we settled with bim for tbe time
and Btopped the expeuse. W'e wanted
our property located, not destroyed,
which 1 do not think any sane man
would do.
How is U that the U. S. government
had all the land surveyed and never
thought of destroying the timber? The
whole United Mates, not aione, out uie
whole civilized world has been surveyed
without a thought of such a thing?
The next day Mr. Keller informed me
that he took hit bearing by the blazed
trees and set his compass a half mile
away, bigbted through and found the
corners. How long are we to be im
nosed noon bv the county officials with
out laisiiigourvoiceagninstit? Are they
not controlled by the laws, or have tbey
full sway to do as they please? Is not
