4o OREGON CITY COURIER-HERALD NEW YEAR NUMBER. DR. J. W. POWELL was born February n, 1850, in the Waldo hills, Marion county, this state. His literary IX, education was obtained in the Willamette University at Salem, after which he taught school for a number of terms in both Marion and Clackamas counties. He graduated from the Louisville Medical College in 1875 and since that time has been actively engaged in the practice of his chosen profession with more than ordinary success. The doctor, in 1887, served a term as a member of the Ne vada legislature of which state he was then a resident, and is now serving his second term as a member of the city council of this city. Two years ago he formed a co-partnership with Dr. J. W. Norris and the firm enjoy the confidence and esteem of the community!, to an unlimited degree. DR. C. A. STUART. was born in Webster City, Iowa, in 1875. and came to Oregon when 9 years of age and has . " 3 1 College of Salem. Mr. Stuart began the practice of his profession at Buena Vista and later moved to Woodburn where he worked up a first-class practice in the two years he resided there. He came to Oregon City last June and began practice and three months later he was appointed county physician for this county by the board of commissioners, which position he now satisfactorily fills. Dr. Stuart enjoys an excellent practice and for the short time he has been in Oregon City it is unprecedented. He makes a specialty an 1 lias been very successful in the care of rheu matism by a treatment of his own invention which has proven an innovation in the treat ment of this dread disease.
