ASSESSOR ELI WILLIAMS.
The subject of this sketch was born in Fin
ley, Ohio, in 1846, and came to Oregon in
1852, residing in Multnomah county for 30
years. He came to Clackamas county March
24, 1883, and resided at Currinsville until he
was elected assessor in 1898. Mr. Williams'
term as assessor expires January 1, 1903, he

COMMISSIONER JOHN LEWELLEN
was born in Monroe county, Missouri, on the
23rd day of February, 1848, removed to Ore
gon with his parents in 1852, crossing the
plains with ox teams, six months on their
journey; located then in Springwater, and
has resided there permanently, until about a
year ago. He purchased a residence in Ore
gon City and is now located there.
In 1874 Mr. Lewellen was elected county
assessor and served two years; in 1875 he
took the state census in connection with the
assessment and completed both rolls without
the assistance of a deputy, at a cost of $fioo
to the county.

ST. PAUL'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH.
St. Paul's Church was organized May 25,
1851. Occasional services were held as early
as 1847, by the Rev. St. Michael Fackler, who
became the first rector of the parish. Fol
lowing him came the Rev. John W. Scllwood
POSTMASTER GEO. F. HORTON
is a native of Ohio, where he was born in
1849. He came to Oregon in 1885 and set
tled in Clackamas and resided at Needy until
1892 when he was elected to the office of
county clerk, which office he held for two
terms, retiring in 1896. In January, 1898,

nection with Judge W. L. White and John
Krause, the cornerstone of which is inscribed
in their names. Afterwards he was elected
justice of the peace and served two years. In
1900 he was again elected county commis

Mr. Horton was appointed postmaster at
Oregon City, and took charge of that office
the following April. This position he has
held to the entire satisfaction of the patrons
of the postoffice, an unparalelled record for
the Oregon City postoffice. Nothing but
words of praise are heard for the manner in
which he has conducted this public institution.
