As we near the approaching elections it becomes more and more necessary that all the reform forces study the sit uation and take Buch steps as may lead to victory. Heretofore the reform forces of this state have been more or less hampered by a lack of preparation, and as a result have suffered defeat at the polls. The necessity of having our forces well in hand will force itself on every one in terested in getting better government for our people, nationally and locally. With a thorough understanding of the situation will come a knowledge of the necessity of a union of all forces opposed to the gold standard and misrule. The queslion is, will we Hand together and present a united front to "Hanna ism," corruption, imperialism and the evils of the republican party's policy as now evidt-need in the acts of the present administration, or will we scatter, per mitting the opposition to continue in power. It seems tome that we should do everything in our power to defeat the enemy, and doubtless all who , are sin cere in a desire to aid reforms will see the urgency of such action. There should be a thorough union of all forces opposed to McKinley, the gold standard and imperialism. There thould be a sinking of all differences, and so com plete a union that there will be one com mittee, one Bet of primaiies, one set of delegates and one set of candidates a'l under one ticket, the name of the party being one that none of the reformers ob ject to. The platform should be: The free and unlimited coinage of silver at at the ratio of sixteen to one, abolition of national banks, issue of greenbacks by the people, government ownership of railroads, telegraphs, telephones, etc., an anti trust clause, and an anti imper ialism plank. ' The candidates, good clean men that h.tve never been identified with questionable measures, and I think we will be able to win the success that we deserve, and that when the laurele are ours we will give the state and county an administration that will be a record to be proud of. My friends, let me urge upon you the necessity of a union, and let me ask you to sink all prejudice, all hanging to the same old party because you voted that way last time, all personal feeling, for in that way we will be able to win, and success with us meanstthat we will make this old world ,the better forour victory; it is not a question of spoils with us, but a m alter of light and wrong. A Farmek. r. M. V. A. ' Monday night was the opening of the educational classes of the Oregon City Y. M. O. A. Last Tuesday the Ladies Auxiliary held a special meeting in the Y. M. O. A. parlor. Preparations were made for a big time Thahksgiving evening. There will be a meeting Monday even ing in the parlors of the association to consider the advisability of organizing a library club. There are many advanta geous reasons for the existence of a liter ary society in the work of the associa tion. Some are embraced in the follow ing: Stimulation, arising from associa tion with those of mutual tastes and ambitions. Gratification of social needs. Independent study and research. De velopment of special talents. Privileges of literary culture.
