It is announced in a cable dispatch from Cape Town dated Sunday, November 5, that the British have been victorious in an engagement at Ladysmith and that the Boer loss was very heavy, including 2000 prisoners. The Boers' shelling of Mafeking is said to have oeen harmless. Other reports say th.'ir shells caused fires. Boers are said to be waiting for guns at Ladysmith. The Peruvian insurgents are said to have beeu dealt a death blow. Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, has been surrendered to General Castro. Reports that General White has ca pitulated at Ladysmith are persistent. Boers say that England will have a sorry time ruling the Transvaal after the war. Boers did not destroy the bridge at Colenso. They shelled the city after it was evacuated. Tammany RejoUxs. New York, Nov. 6. The election in the four counties that make up the city of New York resulted in the election of every democratic candidate pn every county ticket, except Gray, democratic candidate for register in Kings, who was beaten because of his refusal to put in an appearance before the Mazet in vestigating committee an answer char ges made against him. Democratic ma jorities were abnormal, being, in New York county, over 50,000. la Kings county the democratic vote fell off from last year, when Van Wyck ran exceed inglj strong in Brooklyn. The Tammany exultation was not over the county tickets' victory, which has been expected, but over the defeat of Assemblyman Mazet, republican, which they had hoped, prayed and worked for. Fr.ru Mr. Croker down, the Tammany men shouted over Mazel's downfall. Senator Piatt intimated hte tonight that Mazet might be seated in the next assembly, in nhich the republicans have 32 majority. The Tammany democrats openly denounce ex-Senator Hill, whom they blame for the reverses up the state. The republicans in New York county elected only four assemblymen, one o them a member of the citizens' anion.
