Dee Wright, a cattlebujer for H.
Betlike; was held up on the Highland
road about four miles from Oregon City
on Monday evening abiut 6 o'clock by
two highwaymen and relieved of $80. It
wis nearly dark whei. he saw the two
men approacning him on foot and when
they met him they asked for a light anl
he immediately stopped his saddle horse
and reached into his vast pocket for a
match when the robbers seized him. He
showed fight and received a cut from a
knife on his left cheek and was choKed
and held until they had gone through
his clothes. It was thought his watch
was taken but it was afterward found by
Mr. Wright and Sheriff Cooke, who
were on the scene in a short time, and
who followed the tracks until about two
o'clock when the search was postponed
until Tuesday, when Sheriff Cooke fol
lowed the tiacks along the road and
across a field to a cross road ihich leads
to the Molalla road which they followed
until their tracks' were lost in the travel
of the Molalla road near Duffy's wood
camp. The hands of the man that
choked Wright were very rough and
were probably those of a working man.
Wright displayed considerable money
while in a business bouse in Oregon
City, while paying a bill, and made it
known that he was going out to get a
bunch of cattle of Mr. Harrington and it
is possible and probable that someone
heard his remarks and laid for him
when he left town. .
