Cluiutauqiia Notes.
Nearly every college in the state has
arranged for a college department, with
lecturers, college mornings and other
special features.
The indications are that the best pro
gram ever given at Gladstone will draw
tue bignest crowds ever seen there this
year. The successes of the past have
gradually made the assembly well
known, until now a very general inteiest
is awakened all over the Northwest;
Prosperity has also turned attention
toward these summer assemblies, not
only here, but all over the country.
From the present outlook, the musical
part of the program will surpass any
thing heretofore undertaken. J. Ardiau
Epping, in charge, is well known in the
state, and can summon to his aid many
of the best solo and concert singers of
the Northwest.
Miss Vandersoll, Misa La Barre and
Miss Mabel Carter, all well known and
popular elocutionist's, have engaged to
recite at the Chautauqua assembly in
July.
Hundreds of people who have never
before attended the assembly are saying
"I am going to take it in this year." It
is equal to a trip abroad in the many in
teresting and inspiring scenes presented
to the mind. All old attendants say "I
am beginning to look forward and plan
for the assembly as I do for the Fourth
of July and Christmas."
Applications for camping spots are
coming in by hundreds. Especial activ
ity is noticed among the young men who
delight in athletics.
