Kin caid, elected four years ago on the re publican ticket, but recently re-nomi nated for the office by the "union of forces" at Portland writes, in accepting the nomination, to those who conferred the honor upon him, as follows : "Please accept my sincere thanks for the nomination for re-election as secre tary of state by three state conventions, representing the people's party, the democratic party and the silver-republican party of Oregon. I trust that the confidence reposed in me by the bimet austs oi uregon, whom you represent, will never be betrayed. The noiuina tion for thiB important office by the unanimous vote of three conventions composed of a greater number of repre Bemauve men man ever assembled in any Btate convention in Oregon is a great honor and is highly appreciated I accept the nomination and, if elected, will endeavor in the future, as in the past, to discharge the duties of the of fice faithfully and impartially according to the best of my ability. The demand of the coinage of silver on an equality with gold, without waiting for the con sent of foreign nationg.which has united three great political parties in Oregon in 1898 and will possibly unite. ithein in every state in 1900,is, in nay opinion the greatest issue p the age and in volvos the most, vital intureBts of the ..people of ue United States and of the world." Notwithstanding the frantic efforts of of the gold-standard press, assisted by some of the alleged leaders of the popu list tarty, a sutisfatory union of the ro form forces in Oregon has boen ac coinplished and a ticket nominated Earnest (co-operation is required, how ever, to make the campaign against tin republicans a success, as they realize that is a struggle for supremacy that will have a strong bearing on the presi duntial campaign of 19IK), and no means will be leftunlriod to again defeat the w ishes of the people Tiikhb is not a man in the populist party in Uregon, who could he nomi nated, who is more conscientious, more anxious to bo of service to the peoplo, than William K. King, nominated for governor by the "union of forces" at Portland. Mr. Klnirisa vouna ninn nn,l not yet a statesman, nor is ho a man of genius or brilliant parts, but he is sin core, honest, ambitious and has made the most of his opportunities with credit to himself.
