Ladies' fancy trimmed satteen skirts, at the Racket Store. Clackamas Countv Wins. On' Sep tember 17th, 1896, L. and H. Toedte meir, of Stafford, ran a threshing ma chine engine over the bridge across Kruse creek, about nine miles west of this city. The engine, team and driver broke through the structure and fell a distance of 18 feet. The driver, Ernest Buckman, received a painful scalp wound and a bruised hip. He was brought to this city for treatment. The engine was wrecked, and one of the horses so badly injured, that he had to be killed. The engine carried 60 pounds of steam at the time, and it was owing to the extraordinary efforts of the dri ver that he escaped being scalded. Toedtemeir Bros, brought suit for $3,000 damages against Clackamas county, but a change of venue was granted to Wash ington county. The case was up before Judge McBride at Hillsboro last week, and was non-suited for the reason that no timber or planks had been laid down for the wheels ot the engine to run on as required by statute. Judge McBride decided that no individual could receive damages from a corporation or county, for injuries received while violating the law.
