' The school meeting that was held at the fwhoolhouse on Monday evening proved to be one of unusually large at tendance. The two nominees for direc tor were Mr. Klemson and Mr. Temple ton. The vote stood, Klemson 22 and Templeton 10; and the former was de clared elected. W, A. Hedges was elect ed clerk by acclamation. T M.Long, who was in the chair, was given a vole of thanks for his long and faithful ser vice on the board. Every voter in the district seemed interested in this meet ing. It is a question whether the large attendance was due to a renewed inter est in school work or the result of a thorough canvass. It i hoped that the large attendance, whatever may have been the cause, will continue to be such at all meetings of the future. Pursuant to call the republican county central committee of Clnckamas county met in the city council chamber, in this city, at 1 :3) Saturday alternoor. Tna meetinji was culled to order by Chairman S. M. Kamaby, and the first business was the apportionment of dolo mites lor the county convention. A mo tion was made that one delegate be al lowed upon a basis of every 20 votes east for McKinley at the last presiden tial election, and one at lame. J. M. Tracy favored a lame convention, and thought, the people Mhonld have a lartre representation. C. T. Howard, of Alulino, thought it would be much better to have a small convention, as the lartie number of delenatts two years ajo, were still sore over the defeat that fol lowed. He further stated that a larne convention would be cumbersome, and it would take j too long a time to net through. Finally, a resolution was adopted allowing a representation of one jor every 25 votes and one at large, which wdll make a convention com posed of 145 delegates, The matter of judaes and clerks of ele iioni was next discussed. A. J. Vo der, of Marqu im, specially desired that jud-ies and clerks he appointed for the primary in his precinct. K. J. Swat ford was in favor of judges and clerks at some of the primaries, and made a mo tion that each committeeman have the privilege of appointinji judges and clerks in his precinct, if deemed necessary. T. S. Stipp, of Molalla precinct, said that if judges and clerks were appointed in his precinct, there would hardly be any voters left, on the outside to vole. C. T. How ard did not, believe in closing the doors of the primaries to populists, lie said there were many populists in his neighborhood, and that some of them were weak-kneed and should be given an opportunity to return to the republican fold. In fact, i.e thought the populist friends should be treated with metcy. J. M. Tracy wanted the privilege of appointing jmUies and clerks, or not, just as the conditions would warrant. Mr. Van Curen, of Damascus, stated that they had always given every one w ho wished loo, an opportunity to vote in his precinct. It was decided to hold the primaries on April 2nd, and the county conven tion at 9 a. m. on April 6th, the prima ries to be held at two p. m., except where otherwise designated by the com mitteeman. It was voted to hold the county convention at Weinhard's hall. On motion of T. F. Ryan, the commit teemen of each precinct are required to have a list of delegates with the secre tary of the county entral com mittee, at 8 a. in. on the day of the convention, and that no proxies of delegates be given to anyone residing outside of the precinct, where they are elected. The following precincts were repres ented by committeemen as tollows: Charles Holstrom, Abernethy. M Campbell, Harlow., T B Thomas Heaver Creek. C M Lake, Borings HSC Phelps, Canby.
