at Justice Schubel'i office on lust Frid-
doy evening tho following committees
were appointed by President II. Straight :

May, Elmer Dixon and G. A. Hamilton ;
on literature 0. Schubel. G. R. II.
Miller and E. D. Kelly.
Hon. W. S.U'Ren of this county will
hold a joint debate with T. J. Cleeton
at Olatskanie on October 13th.
E. D. Kelly has been appointed a
member of the democratic county central
committee in place of J. W. Cole, gold
bug, resigned ; 0. W. Ganong in pluce of
0. M. Toole ; Sam Engle in place of W.
H. Vaughan of Molalla; A. W. Riggs in
place of J. II. Irvine of Can by; II. Mo
Gugen in place of J. H. Revenue of
Sandy; L. 0. Metzger in pluce of W. P.
Kirchem, gold bugs, resigned. The
committee has been changed throughout
and now consist of Chicago platform
democrats.
A Bryan silver club was organized at
Beaver Creek Saturday evening, by
P. F. May and T. B. Hankins.
Hon. Geo. Chamberlain will speak at
Needy on Friday at 1 p. m. and at
Oanby at 7:30 p. m. for Bryan and
silver. .Mr. Purker of Portland will
speak at New Era on Saturduy, Hon.
John Myers will speak at Mink on Sat
urday evening. Judge A. S. Bennett
will speak in Oregon City on next Wed
nesday evening and Hon. M.L.Olmstead
on the 30th.
Ex-Sheriff 0. W. Ganong was at the
republican headquarters in Oregon City
one day last week when 'one of the
several McKinley men present offered to
bet him $10 that McKinley would carry
Glackamas county. Mr. Ganong said:
"It you want to bet I will put up $1000
on Uryan carrying the county." He
had no takers. Ganong has made a
trip through the county and knew that
it was a safe bet.
An Oregon Cityite asked a republican
wlwt he thought "16 to I" stood for, and
the republican said, "16 men to 1 job."
The other said "I'm glad of that as there
are now 32 men for each job." . ' "'
A poll of the voters cf Beaver Creek
precinct by two republicans is as follows :
Bryan 75, McKinley 17. Four of the
McKinley men are doubtful too.
Garfield precinct will go for Bryan
After considerable effort on-the part
of Hanna's committee in Multnomah
county but 405 G. A. R. men have
signed the McKinley goldbug roll. There
are over 1100 veterans in the county.
Over half of the soldiers in the Rose-
bury home are for Bryan.
REPUBLICAN NOTES.
Tho goldbug McKinley club have
secured the store room in Oregon City
bank block for campaign headquarters.
The Hanna suck has arrived and a cam
paign brass band organized. '
T. T. Geer, republican candidate for
presidential elector, will speak in Clack
amas county on the following dates:
Marquam, October 5 at 1:30 p. m.;
Needy, October 5, 7 p. m. ; Wilsonville,
October 6, 7 :30 p. m. ; Canby, October
7,7:30 p.m.
Senator George 0. Brownell, will
will speak at Forest Grove on Tuesday
evening, October 6. He will speak at
Portland on Friday of this week.
A. S. Dresser will speak at the repub
lican meeting at Gervais Thursday,
October 8, when Governor McConnell of
Idaho will also be present.
Hon. O.M.Idlenian, attorney general,
will speak in Clackamas county as fol
lows: Sandy, Tuesday, October 13, at
p. m ; Eagle Creek, Wednesday, Oc
tober 14, 2 p. m.; Springwater, Thurs
day, October 15, 2 p. m.

Mrs. Bertha M. Gibson lead a paper
on the "History of the Kindergarten."
Mr. Gray also spoke on the subject.
Mr. O. D. Eby recited the -Ride of
Paul Revt e."
MissTennie Mayfield read a paper on
"Primary Geography." She was fol
lowed by Miss Edna Rose.
"Needed Legislation" was the subject
of an imprompt discussion introduced
by George L. Story and participated in
by Miss Rowen, Miss Ross, Mr, Ruther
ford, Supt. Starkweather, Mrs. Karton,
Ex-Supt. Gibson, Mr. Gary, Mrs. Ken,
Hon. George Ogle, Robt. Ginther, W,
W. Austin, and Shirly Buck.
Miss Annie Hicinbotham read an
interesting paper on "Music in the
School." Robert Ginther, W. W. Aus
tin, Edna Ross and Eugene Ogle joined
in the discussion.
The attendanee at this meeting was
good and the audience evinced lively
association .
Prof. Eugene Ogle favored the audlente
with several of his musical selections.
A resolution thanking the people f
