STAFFORD.
We are growing quite metropolitan
in Stafford two butcher wagons every
week, Tuesday and Saturday, dispensing
the best of meat.
Potatoes are excellent in quality
though short in quantity. However the
rain of two weeks ago did the lute potiv
toes a world of good. Gardens are fine.
Corn in its prime for the table.
Alfred Sharp and his sister, Miss
Melinda, are under the doctor's care, we
are sorry to say, but hope they will be
better soon.
Richard Neubauer was taken to his
brother's in Portland last Tuesday. His
mother accompanied him. He had to be
taken upon a bed, although he got very
tired ,stood the trip remarkable well.
Harvesting is well along and Borne
are threshing, others are waiting' for
Sharp & Shroeder to start their strewn
thresher. " ,
There was a wedding in high life last
Sunday, Dell Larson and Ed. Carpenter
were married by Judge Hayes, w ith the
addenda of a charivari croud.

last Sunday.
Rev. Grande preached his farewell
sermon last Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Milen of Mt. Tabor
visited at Mr. Woodruff's Saturday and
Sunday.
Some folks laugh when the remark is
made that "J. L. Gage is at the coast
caring for swamp hay." They say "yes,
swamp hay."
' We are sorry to hear of a painful ac
cident which happened to Ernest Luck
man on Monday. He fell through a
small bridge together with the thresher
engine and horses, gave him a scalp
wound, and hurt his thigh quite severely.
He was taken to Oregon City for treat
ment. The engine was wrecked, and
one the horses had to be killed. The
engine was carrying a small amount of
steam and if the driver hud not been
able to crawl away, he would have been
scalded.

The spring grain looks nice and green.
Mr.F.f.ymun has been working near
Whisky hill.
Clias. Bigelow lias returned home and
is improving very rapidly.
Mrs. J. Ring has been under the enre
of Dr. Leavitt for a few days..

machine threshed for J. C. Palmer lust
Saturday. .
The school house was crowed with
people lust Sunday evening ; Rev. "Ware
preached a very interesting sermon.
We understand that Hon. H. L. Bark
ley, who was elected on June 1st as rep
resented for Marion county on the re -publican
ticket, wi 1 speak at Monitor
this week on the free silver side of the
question. "Then forward, boys, hurrah,
lets join this glorions fray, lets hoist our
flags, and on to victory free-silver will
gain the day."

M. 0. Young had the misfortune to
loose a very valuable heifer calf this
week. The calf did not come up as
usual and search was mado and the calf
was found dead, and hud diet! without a
strangle. It is supposed it wus shot by
careless boys.
Hop pickers are plentiful! in this
locality at 25 cents per box.
The Maycock brothers bought the
Seely brother'! generator this week
for $."0.
Miss Emma Humes and Miss Louisa
Bookman are in the metopolU until
September 1st.

School Fund Apportionment.
Following is the apportionment of t lie
stale school fund ax made by Superin
tendent Starkweather. The per capita
allowance is $1.05 and amounts to a total
of 18103.15 for 7803 school children:

Mr. J. A. Talbert, Jessie and Dora
Talbert, 3eorge Ruth, and Mable and
Myrtle Webster returned from the
mountains last Thursday. They report
a good lime and got lots of berries.
Hie Salvation Army is expected to
strike Clackamas Tuesday evening of
this week. We are sorry to know that
some Christian people are opposed to
their coming. We think they should
meet with no opposition and estieciully
from ministers of the gospel.
Tuesday of last week was quite a gala
day in our town. Seven tv-sfx children
from the Orphans Home, 87th Oorlnstt
street, Portland, pieniced in the beauti
ful grove by the in. E. church. They
were aceompaned by Lady Matron Mrs.
Shirley and three other lady iittendents.
They were a fine lot of children, ranging
in age from three years up to fifteen nd
were all well dressed, neat and clean
and well trained. A special cur on the
nine o'clock train brought them up, and
took them back at four o'clock. The
Loyal Temperance Legion met thorn at
the depot and escorted them to the grove,
where swings and hammocks were pre
pared by the Women's Temperance
Union ; a good dinner was furnished
and all enjoyed themselves immensly.
Mr. Wheeler's two little girls were
quite sick last week but arct now better.
Milo Thompson started for the moiii.-
tains Monday.
Mr. Davem has just completed a new
and commodious barn, and Mr, Haver
latch is building a large fine dwelling
house.
Mr. Cliff Lewthwaite, wife and baby,
attended Sunday school at the M. E.
church last Sunday.
Mr. Heath went to Allany last week
and Mr. J. A. Talbert and ex-County
Superintendent Thomson went toCanby
last Saturday.

. Miss Ada Bedwell left last Wednesday
for an outing at the coast. .
Miss Marion I. Morse, accompanied
by her brother of Portland, left last week
for the seaside.
The Oanemah political club consisting
at McKinleyites, Bryanites and Co teyites
have their regular meeting at Stokes'
store every Sunday morning." Take it
in general the McKinley badges are
rather abundant, but they will be
ashamed to show them after November.
A very pleusant surprise party was
given hist Tuesday evening by the young
folks of Oanemah to Miss Allie Shannon,
who left the following Saturday for
Denve.-. She will be greatly missed by
her, the many friends that she has left
behind. She will spend the greater part
of her time in education;
