The Portland General Electric Co. have
1 commenced the work of reconstruct In
ltd entire lino between Portland and the
generating atnllon (it Oregon City. The
work, which will tout a large mm, will
be done In sections, the worst places
where there is most danger of damage
from storms, etc., being attended to first
The work was started at Oswego and la
progressing both tip and down the river
the boles for poles through this section
having to be blasted in solid rock . The
setting of poles will be begun this week.
The poles used will be 50 fuot In height
and 12 to 14 Inches in diameter at the
. top. These large poles will carry more
wires than the old ones, and are intend
pd to be absolutely safe, as far as danger
from wind storms, sleet, etc., is con
cerned. The old line has stood well
the only accident to it being caused by
the great sleet storm Inst winter,' when
six polea In the Oswego section went
down. The new line will be made as
straight as possible, avo.ding all unneces
sarv crooks and turns, and will follow
the line of the new county road through
Oswego. As fast as sootions are rebuilt,
the wires will be changed over to the
new poles so as to avoid any Interruption
to business.
Tub. Lovkjoy Suit. --Judge Stearns of
Portland eontlrmed the report of At
torney W. D. Fenton, referee, before
whom, upon a charge of venue from
Clackamas county, was tried the case of
Amos L. Lovejoy, William R. Lovejoy,
Elizabeth M. Gowdy, Nellie Lovejoy
and Albert Hudson atrainst the Wil
lamette Falls Electric Company and the
General Electric Company, filed May 28.
The plaintiffs were represented by At
torneys George E. Chamberlain, Whal
ley, Strnhan & Pipes, and the defendats
by J. C. Moreland. The finding in the
pase are in favor of the defendants who
are to recover posts from plaintiffs.
Thus the suit for Ahernethy island is
settled in favor of the company.

Tbe spiritualists of Oregon will com
mence their annual camp mejtlng at
New Era on July 3, and continue to
July 21. There will be a grand celebra
tion on July 4, with a good table spread
and eloquent speakers to entertain the

The grand jury of Portland indicted
Judge Hayes and Toll Thompson of the
State Insurance Company for extortion
and intimidation. This ia the second
edition of the Jennie E, Meloher In
surance case, which was settled some
time ago.

alleged obtaining of property by false
pretenses was beard in Justice Dixon's
court op Saturday apd Hamilton waa
discharged on ground that it did not

The closing exercise of St. John'
school will take place at Shively'a ball

Sheriff Maddock ia having good sue
ces collecting taxes this year. Ot the
$155,000 of taxes to be collected there
yet remains but about $10,000 or $15,000
and it ia expected that on July 3d, the
date when the tax books will be turned
over to the court, that but $5000 or $0000
will be delinquent. Last year the de
linquent taxes amounted to about $14,'
500. The court this year ha allowed a
month more than last year tor tax
collection.
Will Moore, the ault club fraud, ha
been having trouble. Last week he
was arrested on complaint of one of the
membera of the club who bad paid $0
or $7 and drew out but received no suit
On Tuesday hi shop was closed for a
rent bill of $0. He appeared before
Justice Dixon i n Wednesday at 10 a. m.
for trial and asked until 1 p. m. to get
witnesses. During the meantime he
disappeared. The 30 odd persons who
drew suits and did nor get them are in
the "soup."
