Concerned citizens speak of the downtown development
Dear Editor,
Regarding Ivy Island. It was
noted (in the last issue) a hearing
would be held on the 15th of De-
cember. That date is Not the date
the City Council will vote wheth-
er or not to vacate Ivy Island, that
vote will come early next year.
Also, in regards to the term “pub-
lic plazas.” The architect on his
own website makes no mention
of any “public plaza”, but rather
“courtyards” and a “pedestrian
plaza.” This distinction is import-
ant because many residents may
think this will be like our current
public plaza for Winterfest and
the Farmer’s Market. If Ivy Island
is vacated the total square footage
left as public property would be
less than the size of a tennis court
and likely have the “Welcome to
St. Johns” sign placed on it.
The St. Johns/Lombard plan is a
good plan. It has been responsible
for many great changes that have
contributed to our vibrant com-
munity. In it, there are two alter-
